So today I was on DTR, it was pretty busy. I had a customer place a fairly large order, he put his card in the card reader (we’re trying to be as contactless as possible). Meanwhile I was gathering his drinks there were like 4 or 5 plus food items, so it took a little while to get it all. I noticed that the system was showing “does customer want the receipt” prompt and figured I had asked already and that he had taken his card out. I usually wait until everything is out the window before pressing no, so I don’t start giving out the next order. Anyways I finished handing out the order and the guy moved forward in the drive thru lane, but hadn’t left completely. Next customer pulls up and I review to make sure I have the right order pulled up and tell them the price. I start to put the card reader out for the customer and notice at the same time as the customer that the previous customer had left his card in the reader still. I stuck my head out the window to yell for the guy that he left his card and he got out to retrieve it. No big deal. The customer at the window (4 ladies in the car) start laughing and joking about how they thought he was treating them. I laughed along with them, but then the woman in the passenger seat starts talking about how she should get a chocolate cake pop for free. I was smiling behind my masks and thinking she was just being funny, but wasn’t initially going to do anything because it really didn’t seem like a big deal, yet this grown ass woman is sitting here asking for a free cake pop because they didn’t use this guys card? The she starts saying “at my local Starbucks they would give me a free cake pop, because they value me” like shaming me for not jumping to give out free stuff for just doing nothing? I eventually just gave in because this woman wasn’t going to stop and I figured it was just a cake pop but jeez louise. Then on top of that one of the women in the backseat’s drink was wrong so we had to wait even longer for her PSL to be made as a frapp. I don’t know if it was just because it was the end of my shift for a way busier Saturday, but this just seemed like you shouldn’t have to ask for a reward, that defeats the purpose of rewarding someone for doing something that they did for no other purpose than being a good human.
