Best ways to greet in DT and ask for names?? (self.starbucksbaristas)

“Good morning how are you today? What can I get for you? Okay that’ll be $4.65, May I have a name for your order? Thanks!” I usually write an ‘ask me’ for the name, if I don’t hear it or they say no, I don’t put anything. If I can’t spell it I say, “How do I spell it?” I’ve come to terms with the 18 ways you can spell anyone’s name, so I normally spell it generically.

I always say “Hey there, welcome to Starbucks! My name is ___ what’s your name?” and then if their name is Scott I always say “Hey there, Scott! What can I get started for you?” or if bar is struggling and needs some extra time in between cars I squeeze in a “how are you doing on this beautiful day” before I ask what they want

You have to ask for the name in DT? That’s so stupid and a waste of time. Like even if you’re soloing you still have to do it?

Yes :( it’s supposed to make it so that we have better connections at the window but I hate that they don’t have a spot for it like there is on cafe orders because we have to put it in an ask me

Our DM doesn’t want us to ask for names “for the order”, because we’re supposed to be getting to know our customers. I’m too lazy to learn one way and switch it up in panic when he’s there, so I just ask “okay, and what’s your name?” At the end of my list of questions.
