you should definitely talk to the SM of the store you want to transfer to and secure a spot there before talking to your SM. your manager will have to sign off on it so avoiding the conversation isn't possible but at least if things get weird you can already have the process started with your desired store.

the same thing happened to me. I got hired at a shitty store with the worst manager I think ive ever had and I covered a shift at another store AND FELL IN LOVE. this job is pretty cool and although it gets stressful it makes things easier if management isn't causing you anxiety throughout your whole shift. I ended up talking to the manager of my desired store and once I knew she needed a partner I talked to my manager about it. he didn't make it easy for me (because he's a dick) but quitting was never an option because I never wanted him to get in the way of my money.
