Grande-ish sized rant? (self.starbucksbaristas)

I'm pretty irked right now about how I've been being scheduled more the last month and a half, so I figured I'd just do some venting since there's not too much o can do about it.
I'm relatively new, going into my 3rd month now at Starbucks, and mostly I'm liking it quite a lot. When I got hired the SM said that they require everyone to work one weekend day to keep things fair. Now I was assuming that meant so that there's not some people not working any weekends, and other people having to work all weekend. But for the last freaking month and a half I've worked both days every weekend.

I asked a coworker if they could take one of my weekend shifts this weekend since I've worked every weekend for a while, and they asked if I had another job, and were mildly surprised I didn't and that I was working both Sat and Sun every week.

I know that with the morning/afternoon blocks we were divided into, scheduling is a little harder and there's less people, so I didn't mind too much especially since I need the money. But this weekend is the middle of a seven day work streak, and while I'm glad for the money, I need a freaking break.

Like the SM is the only one who makes the schedule so I'm sure they know I've been working both days every weekend for a month and a half, and it's pretty freaking unfair and as much as I'm grateful for the job and like most of the people there, it's frustrating enough that I'm considering looking for other work.

Well, I would try talking to your manager first about it before quitting. There are some managers who take advantage of people who don't speak up for themselves. Try telling them something like hey I've been working a lot of weekends lately and when I started I was told that weekend shifts would be evenly distributed to keep things fair, so I would appreciate it if you gave me some weekend days off on the next few schedules.

I know at least at my store a lot of people put down that they're not available on weekends so the people with open availability end up working every single weekend. Managers have to work around everyone's availability so if you say you're down to work on weekends they'll definitely take advantage of that. It's not malicious, they're probably just trying their best. Unless you actually tell your manager how you're feeling they'll just go on assuming that everything's fine. It's important that you tell them things like this so that they can take it into consideration. Best of luck to you!

Have you tried talking to your SM? The problem will never get fixed if SM doesn’t know there is a problem to begin with. Before quitting you should talk to your SM about getting 1 of the weekend days off

That's a fair point. Thanks for the advice
