So, I'm a shift right now and I absolutely can't handle it anymore. Just everything with COVID and the company not giving a shit about its employees and the higher ups keep raising their expectations of us while not raising own labor. Anyway, the only reason I still am a shift right now is the pay and I was wondering if I demote myself will I be able to keep my pay? Not really something I want to ask my manager right now (for obvious reasons).

If you demote yourself to a barista you don’t get to keep supervisor hourly pay rate?

You will not keep the same pay because you are not doing the same job. However, you shouldn’t go back to starting barista pay, you’ll probably get paid something in the middle.

Ah okay. I know that if you're a manager and you go down to shift you end up with the top shift pay so I wonder if this is also the same thing going from shift to barista.

Being a closing shift is kicking my complete ass. I feel ya.

Why would you keep the same pay for not doing the job of the SSV? Your pay would get demoted just like your position. You will get paid for the job you are doing which would be barista...so barista pay.

Because you have the experience and knowledge of a SSV. So you know and will do the jobs an SSV because you can. Self- Demoted SSVs are the most underpaid people in this company

Don’t do the SSV jobs if you aren’t an SSV then????

So if I have coding knowledge, should I get paid as developer even though though I’m not doing any coding and just making coffee as barista? Having knowledge of SSV position doesn’t entitle you to the pay if you are not doing the job. Doing the job of the barista, have the title of the barista? You get paid as a barista.

Hi, shift from Canada here. From the experience of other shifts I know who have demoted, they make something in the middle. We usually get paid 17$/hr as shifts and the baristas make 14$/hr. Demoted shifts make something like 15.50? I guess it's something like compensation for the knowledge and shift experience they have?
