Probably last December when we had happy hours every week. Definitely got worse when COVID came up

I’ve been here two and a half years, I’ve always loved going to work and being with my co workers, but the older I get, the more I start to realize how much work you do for such little pay. I have friends in similar jobs who do far less work for more pay. Starbucks is a great job if you’re someone in need of school or benefits IMO, but the tough work and shitty shifts catch up to you quick.

I’ve worked at Starbucks twice. The first time I never really “hated it”. Some days were annoying and some customers were annoying but I genuinely liked the job and my coworkers were awesome. Granted, I was younger and worked less than full time. I was just recently rehired (new store, new state, full time) and quit after a month because the staff just wasn’t great, the customers seem to be way worse?? And just overall it’s been bad since day one. I think the pandemic seems to have a huge play in it but maybe it’s the state I’m in (haha). Hopefully it doesn’t get bad for you, my first store was awesome. We had a terrible manager but I worked closing so it was never bad.

I started working for Starbucks when I was 27 years old and I am now 46. I was an SM after my first year (came from management in my former job so was promoted quickly) and quit in late 2005. I came back as a barista around 9 months later and stayed in the same store until I transferred 2 years ago to follow a manager that got promoted to a higher volume store. I love my job. It isn’t really a big source of income for me more an insurance job and that might make a big difference for the enjoyability factor. I have relationships with some customers that have lasted 15 years plus and have turned many of them into outside of work friends. I have also had the privilege of working with some of the finest young people I’ve ever met. I think you get out of it what you put into it but I also believe that who you work for makes all the difference. I’ve had some bad managers but not many. Good luck greenbean and just remember you can’t control how you are treated by those around you (customers and coworkers) only how you react to those people and that will make all the difference in the world!

took me 2 full years to hate it. i absolutely loved it at first, dont let the fact that older baristas hate their job effect you! if you love it, thats awesome.

I have been here a year and I wouldn’t say I hate it. But I will say some customers can burn in hell. And they make it bad for us, demanding extra service and being treated and charged differently than everyone else. So if your store doesn’t have those people good for you guys. I’m up in Washington state and we breed coffee snobs.

Honestly I dont think a lot of baristas hate their jobs, but it gets incredibly stressful and annoying sometimes and baristas use this sub to vent. I work at a Target Starbucks. We are very understaffed, it gets really busy, and we have some rude customers. Honestly sometimes I want to cry but never do because it’s never been THAT bad. My coworkers are really nice and supportive and there are a lot of nice customers too. It’s an alright job so I don’t dislike it, but I don’t love it either.
