Advice on becoming a shift supervisor (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Malachi_Wolfe
If this isn't allowed, I apologize in advance.

Okay, so I've been a partner for roughly 3.5 years now and have expressed interest in becoming SSV on numerous occasions. I've been passed over, for lack of a better phrase, for the position three times. Each time, the partner promoted has been one whose been with the company for less than a year. I've asked my SM what I need to do to prove myself, as well as what areas I need to work on, and am getting little to no feedback from him. Meanwhile, I have two SSVs who have both said they have confidence that I have what it takes. PDPs are next week, with mine in particular being this coming Monday if memory serves me correctly. How should I bring this up to my SM and should I firmly, yet politely, insist that he give me some sort of feedback?

i would ask if you SM is not going to promote you if you can transfer to a store that needs shifts, Our store we need shifts but have not anyone that we can promote that has the skills or worked long enough to know whats going on.

If you don’t get promoted, transfer. Sometimes that is what it takes to get noticed and appreciated. Your store partners and managers become used to your capabilities and down play it in their heads. If you go to a new environment, I almost guarantee you will be promoted faster.

I'm in this identical boat. I know how much it stings. Heart goes out to you

Have you used the field guide in the portal? There is a page that shows you what you need to do to move up. That’s just a part of it though. If your manager isn’t showing any interest in helping you then you might just need to transfer elsewhere.

I'm in a similar situation with a manager who has all but admitted she dislikes me on a personal level and is trying to harass me into quiting. However, your manager may just be busy and asking for feedback could not hurt. If anything it will confirm your interest.
