So I was DTW/DTO today like I usually am. Everything was fine, we weren’t crazy busy (which was strange since it was around noon) and the line was moving smoothly (AND we had small, one-drink orders! That weren’t complicated!) and this cranky old lady comes through and I don’t who pissed in her Cheerios but Jesus. I took her order, had to ask her to repeat it a couple of times because she was mumbling and kept stopping mid sentence to talk to people on the phone (can I get two pumps of- oh I can’t BELIEVE he did that!) and she would say nasty things like, “god this girl is a fucking idiot she can’t even ring in a latte w/o asking me to repeat it five fucking times” then get off ur fucking phone and ORDER. And I can ring in a latte with two pumps of whatever it is you won’t tell me. Anyway so she finally tells me her order and I read it back, and ask “Alright can we get anything else for you today?” And keep in mind, even though I’m really annoyed and want to just snap, I’m being super nice and respectful. And she just. “I told you my order stupid, so why the fuck are you asking me if I want anything else? Now tell me my total so I can go do more important things.”

Uhhhh. Before I could say anything my shift lead was on the headset. He basically said “We’re literally just trying to confirm your order and make sure everything you’re being charged for is correct, so there is no reason for you to come at us like that. We’ll give your total at the window but just know that if you aren’t going to treat us with proper respect then don’t come back. Thanks for your patience and have a FANTASTIC day.”

I don’t know what happened since I went on lunch before the got to the window but I wish he had waited that two extra minutes to let me go on lunch

He’s the sweetest! After that whole thing he came over to tell me I was going on my lunch (he told me before that order but I hadn’t heard him) and was like”yeah I’m really sorry for jumping on the headset like that, I hope you didn’t think it was rude I just don’t tolerate it when people are rude for no reason” and like??? Literally why would I be mad about that.

More shifts/managers need to be like that and corporate needs to back them 100%.

In fact, they should be able to straight up tell people that they won’t be served the second they go to that level of ignorance without fear of repercussions from above.

I am the same way. I refuse to let customers treat partners like shit. It’s just coffee. It’s not that damn serious.
