Anyone else’s hours being cut? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by mattchaa
All of the closers at my store are working less than 26 hours and this has been going on since Covid started. Almost all of our morning crew are working 36+ and they constantly have 7 people on the floor while we only have 3 and aren’t even breaking 30 hours. I’m a shift supervisor and it’s at the point where my paychecks are under 550 and I’m starting to panic a little...just wondering if this is happening to anyone else.

Oh yeah literally every store mate- I make around 400 every 2 weeks despite having my daily workload increase

For real this is getting to be too much

My paycheck was 300 LMAO
mattchaa [OP] 3 points 2y ago
Gaaaah I’m so sorry :(

I wish I was getting 26 hours a week. I’m at 22, this week 18 FML

It’s so crazy! We have a morning barista—who is 17 mind you—who is working 40 hours! Their tips have been like 80 too lmfao. So stressful

Same over here. My paycheck was so small compared to pre covid and I have rent and electric due on top of car issues leaving me with a whopping $34 in my bank account till next pay 🙃 I’m actively panicking. Day shift gets 6-7 people and as soon as I come in it immediately drops to 3 and all of us have so little hours. And somehow I’m still expected to get everything done AND get what day shift couldn’t get done.

What the actual hell!!!! That’s how it is at my store too and it’s crazy because what would be “peak” is happening at like 2:30pm until close! I don’t want to look for another job because I do love it here but I can barely pay my bills right now...:(
coffeecat7918 2 points 2y ago
Same. I will say we do slow down LATER in the night but I still have a rush from at least 2-5 and the catch up on top of everything is just. I’m basically running around like a chicken with it’s head cut off. But I’m struggling with money so bad and I’m too exhausted to even try a second job- not that most places are hiring and if they are it’s not any better pay 😔

Our sales at my store are up almost 40% from last year and we’re seeing close to 900 people a day 😣 lately when we close we’ve had to stay for an extra two hours just to catch up. I hope it changes for us all soon!

The morning shift has more people on because morning peak is a lot busier and requires more people to handle. More transactions = more labor (earned and used).

My store sees 16 customers maybe 20 an hour between open and 12:30pm and since Covid began we have not had a peak :/ the actual peak business happens at around 2 until close.
mykotman12 0 points 2y ago
How many customer per half hour do you server after 2pm?
mattchaa [OP] 2 points 2y ago
Anywhere from 27 to 44
mykotman12 1 points 2y ago
So you telling me that you help 44 people per half hour with only 3 partner all night long?
Month_Puzzleheaded 3 points 2y ago
My hours went from 35 to 20 since covid and finding a new job or a second one is so difficult. I can barely help with bills 😢😢
mattchaa [OP] 2 points 2y ago
I’m so sorry to hear that :( I wish that they’d have just extended that extra Covid pay.
Month_Puzzleheaded 2 points 2y ago
Me too. With the amount of work we have to do and deal with shitty customers is not enough money.

Spoke to all my closers and said I would speak to my SM... she then said she felt like I was unable to trust me for allowing conversations like this to exist. I said the closers all felt the same way, she said that none of the closers have ever mentioned a problem.

She has also said that even though the store is open 18.5 hours a day there's no way to adjust the blocks so that the 3rd block could get more than 4.5 hour closes. She claims to be working her best to get us better coverage. But we have to understand her hands are tied.

She also asked that we no longer discuss this as a team and approach her individually.

Im a 13 yr partner. The most senior partner in my store, I have open availability and have not been scheduled for more than 27 hours in 2 months. I take my role as SSV seriously and due to the fact that other shifts have availability issues I am on the 3rd block. Yet also due to availability issues, I open every damned Sunday.

Sorry didn't mean to hijack your thread.

BUT I FEEL YOUR PAIN.

I wonder if there is a way that all of us as a whole can get ahold of someone about this because it’s not fair. I’m so sorry that you all have to deal with that right now :(
carter_west1 2 points 2y ago
i used to get $300 a paycheck and it’s down to $150 cause my hours have been cut so much :(
mattchaa [OP] 1 points 2y ago
I am so so sorry :( that’s absolutely not fair especially right now.
carter_west1 2 points 2y ago
i’m attempting to look for another job but it’s kinda hard rn
mattchaa [OP] 1 points 2y ago
For real! Covid is kinda making it super hard. I’m only staying at this rate because it’s a stable job for now 😞
PumpkinNoSpice 2 points 2y ago
You should talk to your SM about splitting the hours better. If that doesn’t work, talk to your DM
mattchaa [OP] 1 points 2y ago
I’m going to try again! We have all kind of expressed our concerns to both but as far as the sm goes I feel like people are scheduled more around them because it’s easier for their shift 👀
