first of all, I’m not sure if every Starbucks has this position. I didn’t see one at any of the Starbucks I’ve been to lately, so it might be because I work at a location within a college campus. anyway, I despise this position.
because of Covid, my Starbucks moved our condiment bar perpendicular to the drink pick-up counter. at the condiment bar, there now stands a poor employee whose job is to stay in that spot, hand out drinks to customers, give condiments, and yell at customers for not maintaining social distancing from each other. that’s it. and you might think it’s nice because you get paid for essentially standing, but with the status of the world right now, we’re pretty slow for most of the day. so you stand there.....for hours......and occasionally yell at some customers.
I know it’s a privileged complaint and we’re just following the rules for safety and whatnot, but it makes the days so long. Just wanted to see if anyone shares my pain. I might start doing wall-sits during my shifts in this position to do something productive.

I would love to have some one in that position at our store. We are a cafe and have to yell at customers from behind the bar while making drinks and handing off mobile orders as well. It becomes chaotic at times, but everyone tries to fill in when possible. If we had one dedicated partner for that role it would help out more often than not. But yes it would have its moments of absolute boredom for them as well. Hang in there!

I used to do this; I was always in that position when I came to clock in. The standing around was terrible, but the feeling of telling customers to follow the rules and having that sense of authority for once was great. I wasn’t a dick or anything, I just wanted to keep everyone safe. I still had to be polite and firm tho.
