It’s becoming impossible to not be rude back to rude customers...(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by misguidedghostman
On drive, I asked a customer if she had a mask to wear, as it is mandated in CA(and just common courtesy) She immediately gives me a dirty look and sarcastically says “aren’t we 6 feet apart?” I instinctively say “I don’t know I’m sorry, I don’t have a ruler on me.” Guess who got written up after a call from corporate 🥴
thatsmysharpie436 points2y ago
Call Ethics and Compliance and file a complaint about how you got written up for trying to be in compliance with your local laws.
Brucius70487 points2y ago
I second this!!!
meloscav32 points2y ago
Thirding honestly wtf
DigitalShark512 points2y ago
Repetitive, but fourthing!
pink_haired_bitch3 points2y ago
That’s honestly a great idea. You’re required as well to ask them to comply like I get you were “rude” (quotation marks cause I find it deserving and funny af lmfao) but you were still doing what you were supposed to do. I wouldn’t have written you up. Call them and make it right
boxinghamster16137 points2y ago
Oh shit. A comeback as quick as that, you don't deserve a write up. That's funny af.
MommaX2Barista10 points2y ago
Yesss!!! I would have thought of a comeback, but it would have been much later!
beccaboo2u118 points2y ago
I find my patience becoming thinner with each passing shift as well
mcsalts991 points2y ago
What level of thin we talking bout? I’m on less than paper thin, how close are you to just losing it fam?
beccaboo2u2 points2y ago
Yes, paper thin, ice thin, if you ask me for a straw to mix your caramel macchiato I'm gonna punch you in the throat thin.
big_boi_goose92 points2y ago
honestly, it’s bullshit you got written up. You have to go to work, and there is a rule to protect not only the other costumers, but you as well, and if she hadn’t broke the rule, this wouldn’t have happened. idk i think it’s bullshit
dalenakitty34 points2y ago
That really sucks. My manager doesn't give a fuck if we get complaints from corporate luckily. She's so done with people being idiots and complaining about mask etc. One of my old managers would personally give them corporates number and be like here's my name, go call them and tell them I said Hi. 😂😂😂😂
miked191226 points2y ago
I wish. I had a man start screaming and swearing at me because I asked him if he had a mask. When I told my manager about it she asked me how I made the moment right... like, there's no way to make that moment right, the man was screaming at me...
maemac15 points2y ago
All of the shifts at my store got a talking to about “making the moment right” after a shitty regular flipped us off and called us fucking bitches (all women btw). We were basically reprimanded because we did not try to ~de-escalate the situation.
43richierich434 points2y ago
That's just straight up abuse there. I'm sorry for the language but your manager sounds straight from hell
visi6n32 points2y ago
That ruler line is amazing, I can’t wait to use that on a customer. Damn I’ve been rude back and have refused service a few times because they weren’t wearing masks. In Canada, masks have been mandated since the middle of July and people still don’t own one or have any idea that it’s mandatory like how?! It’s only all over the news, signs are posted on every stores storefront, there’s ads about it, cmon people.
[deleted]3 points2y ago
They haven’t been mandated that long. It was only in this weekly update that Starbucks Canada was mandating it. Local bylaws have been put in place, however, and those will affect how we run.
StellaLuxx0 points2y ago
Some place have a local mandate. That might be what they meant. My city has a mandatory mask mandate.
[deleted]1 points2y ago
Mine does too, thanks. It’s incorrect to say that they have been mandated since mid-July because that is not true for the entire country nor company.
StellaLuxx0 points2y ago
Wasn't trying to be a dick. Didn't know yours was too 🤷
StrawberryElk1 points2y ago
Because it "doesn't exist". Since little johnny from down the road don't have it then it must mean the tv is lieing to all of us or at least not that bad!!! But seriously though. The ppl that don't wear masks get such smug looks like they've got special privileges or something.
borutosfather17 points2y ago
it’s exhausting to have to constantly ask, especially when you’re in a county that’s had a mandate since fucking july. if you don’t want to wear a mask, don’t go out bc you won’t find any sympathy from service workers
itspicasso15 points2y ago
Oh my god I’m sorry you got written up that’s bullshit. Good for you for not taking it though. So many times I wish I had said something back to rude customers
Koalastars00914 points2y ago
After a certain political event we’ve been having a ton of bolden half maskers and under the chin maskers. Most of these people have American flag, state flag, confederate flag, or favorite president mask on so they’re easy to spot. But it’s gotten to the point where I’ve stopped caring about telling them anything. Mostly because they’re looking for a fight and I’m not even going to acknowledge their stupidity. I’m still going to do everything to keep myself safe and healthy. But if these people don’t want to make it to Christmas I could care less now. It sounds mean for saying it, keep yourself and your coworkers top priority. You’re worth it, they’re not.
maemac10 points2y ago
Crazy how you description of their masks is spot on. Don’t worry, this is natural selection doing it’s part. I do get a sick pleasure out of interrupting them in the middle of their order to tell them to pull their mask up or I can’t take their order lmao
Koalastars0093 points2y ago
Seems like it. I’m hoping things calm down after the election but I guess we’ll see.
coffeecat79183 points2y ago
I feel you. I had to tell my closing barista it’s not worth the argument and stress If you see them, because you won’t win. It’s like arguing with some one on Facebook. I want everyone to wear a mask and wear it correctly but 90% of the people who aren’t are just going to fight and scream and yell. And then we get in trouble for having too many customers problems on the shift and to remember the de escalation stuff. There’s nothing to possibly de escalate here, it’s either they wear the mask or get mad we ask them to.
Koalastars0091 points2y ago
Exactly! It’s best to let things go and keep yourself safe.
TheDoctor8888888814 points2y ago
I just tell them politely I can’t serve them without a mask. If they keep trying I just get my SM out there and take the next customer
golden_pinky11 points2y ago
At my store we don't even require people to wear it in the drive thru. If I had to guess, it's about 70 percent of people who don't wear it. I just think it's so pathetically rude to drive up to a barista who has to wear a mask for up to eight hours a day to serve you and you can't have the curiously to wear it for less than a minute for me?
self-hate-in-indiana9 points2y ago
Wait you guys enforce masks in drive?
thatsmysharpie10 points2y ago
I don’t know if it’s a statewide guideline yet, but certain cities in California specifically included drive thrus in their mask mandates.
self-hate-in-indiana2 points2y ago
Ahhh fair enough. Thank you for the reply
JHOOOOBI7 points2y ago
Just know I a former barista am more than prepared to lay into a rude ass bitch for y’all should I see it happening.
imaraisin6 points2y ago
By definition, this is retaliation for enforcing laws.
meloscav4 points2y ago
I wouldnt even consider that rude lmao???
darkwolf5234 points2y ago
I don’t work with a Starbucks with a drive through but how does the mask mandate work with that?
borutosfather7 points2y ago
it’s rarely enforced and even with a county wide mandate w violations punishable by fines ppl assume they don’t have to wear a mask in DT since they’re in their own car (so fucking stupid when at least my old store didn’t even have a shield at the window)
darkwolf5232 points2y ago
I would have imagine if you’re in your car, it would be ok but guess not
[deleted]3 points2y ago
I actually measured and we are less than 3 feet apart. Unfortunately, my store does not require masks or even provide gloves for handling cash.
logxanx3 points2y ago
Someone called my store and wanted to speak to the manager and I was the SSV on duty and she wouldn't tell me what the problem is but because I couldn't help her I kept getting screamed at and told I don't deserve a fucking job and I am super fucking incompetent So I told her to quit being disrespectful and hung up on her lmao.
lebrellj2 points2y ago
We don't enforce in drive thru (I fucking wish we would, though). But I am relentless about masks in the store. Even my manager has told asked me to call someone out because I am not afraid to speak out. I will remind the person politely once, because then I can't be accused of escalating the situation. I will even offer them a mask.
MariasGalactic2 points2y ago
I got screamed at because a lady was mumbling and I couldn’t hear her. She yelled “why do I have to fucking scream??” It took every ounce of my being to not saying anything back.
josiemoppin1 points2y ago
Local laws rule over store laws
Vader_Boi1 points2y ago
Fuck them and fuck corporate
SSFF6B1 points2y ago
King.
