Store manager shorting partners pay? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by moepengy
I've noticed one of the partners at the store had clocked in for a full shift and while looking at her timecard with her I noticed it had only counted her for part of the shift. Also I noticed that despite being clocked in earlier that I was not getting paid for time that I worked despite using the dispute function. I'm convinced my boss is shorting partners of their pay and using the book to make it so they don't get the pay they've worked. There have also been multiple instances of verbal abuse toward partners from this manager. There has been at least 1 partner fired without use of the warning system or any prior communication. All in all it looks highly suspicious and while I can't afford a lawsuit I feel like something has to be done. While I myself plan on leaving it's more so for everyone else who has to work under her.

Does anyone have any advice on what to do?

So this is super illegal. In the Partner Hours app, you can find all of the edits to your shift start and end times, who made the edits, and when. If what you suspect is true, your manager is going to get fired IMMEDIATELY when corporate confirms it. Then they would give everyone affected their due back pay and try to avoid a lawsuit. If you confirm that your punches have been edited inaccurately to short you pay, call PCC immediately.

The other innocent possibility that I couldn't really tell from the way you phrased it might be going on, if I'm looking at the number of hours the app says I worked while it is still the same day, the hours it says are nonsense. When I work an 8 hour shift, clock in and out on the computer for everything, and look at it after clocking out to leave, it'll often say some nonsense like 2.33 hrs, or 4.83 hours. But it will be correct by the following day.

Okay I'll be sure to check if the hours are adjusted to the proper amount in time. I don't know if this is on purpose and malicious or just maybe she hasn't gotten to it yet. But I'll keep an eye out. Thanks.

Wait.. Can someone who has time talk about the necessity of using the warning system before firing someone? Is it a starbucks policy?

It's generally part of the company policy to communicate in strikes and corrective paperwork or just talking to the person. But legally they can fire in an at will state.

Depending on the state, we have what is called "at will employment" and can basically be laid off at any time for just about any reason (short of discrimination but they could just claim some other excuse)
