Store transfer (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by deku_av
Hi! i’m a new partner, i’ve been working for almost a month now and there’s a new store opening i’d love to transfer to. I don’t know if it would be okay for me to even ask to leave, but other partners that trained with me are also planning on leaving to the new store. The SS also would like for me to go but i just don’t know if it’s a good idea to ask because the SM told me she basically can’t cut back my hours and that she needs people but i don’t like that store as much as i did when i started, and i truly feel that i want to go somewhere better. It’s also a better location for me because it’s close to most of my family members and my dentist :) I just need advice :)

You're perfectly welcome to ask and make your preference known. Your SM is well within her rights to say no. Typically transfers aren't allowed for 3 months after hiring, and under any circumstances, the original SM can say no if it will leave their store understaffed or is otherwise problematic for the company's interests. But it's not a bad thing to let her know that the new location is more convenient for you and when it is feasible you'd like to transfer. That's useful information for her to make hiring decisions.

Thank you for the advice! it really helps! i really don’t want to cause problems with the SM, i’d just like to be able to go when possible.

Your SM will be butthurt but if it’s better for you, take it. I stayed at a store where they treated me horribly because the manager guilted and shamed me whenever I tried to leave. Not worth it.
