They probably have you doing trash because it’s something you can do without training and if the other partners are on the floor and it’s more productive to take you off rather than them, it makes sense. But, if you’re constantly getting all the shit work and not given an opportunity to learn the other stuff that’s sucky.

As for meal, unless you live in a state with specific break laws (many/most do not) you would only be given one 10-minute break for a 5.5 hour shift. You have to work over 6 for a 30.

With a 12:30-6 schedule you should be able to plan your meals accordingly and get by with a snack during your 10.

Obviously if that's the case bring it up lmao I think you know what to do here. Pitying yourself isn't going to inspire anyone to do it for you, you have to actually say something

Lmao. I’m sure anyone would agree working at a new place with new coworkers is awkward as fuck. I never pity myself. I asked some questions seeing as I’m a new barista. And don’t know how everything works. And got some answers. Thanks for your irrelevant input. ✨💋💋

You're very welcome! You do need to know local labor laws. It's important to not be exploited.

yep when i started working there they made me do dishes and trash all the time. but i started getting shifts that would give me the option to do trash or something else so idk. maybe next time they tell you just say you’d prefer not to

I agree with pulltab, It sounds like they want you to do it since you’re new. If it makes you feel better I’m the strong one in my store and I’m always being asked to do it, so I know the feeling lol

To answer the other part of this question at least at my store we do complain. We have one SSV that is so lazy. They also kinda know it though but we still complain to each other (not our SM or DM though)

They’re probably making you do their dirty work so that 1. they don’t have to and 2. they don’t have to help you as you get acquainted as you grow in other positions. That’s just laziness. Also Starbucks as a company gives a 30minute lunch if scheduled 6 or more hours. Which is why managers deliberately schedule people for a 5.5hr shift so they don’t have to give you anything more than a 10. Some states legally require more breaks than that so if your state is stricter than the starbucks standards then it goes by your state law. But best of luck in your new job! It gets so much better but the first while is hard

well, i don’t think they are targeting you to make you do it and as long as they are not disrupting your work like making you stop whatever you were doing , i wouldn’t find any reason to complain. and always feel free to ask your coworkers if you need help! i’m pretty sure they would not mind. and you should be getting a lunch
