My manager had us stop doing clean play, resulting in this (maybe) black mold underneath the ice in our drive thru bar (i.redd.it)

yall were only cleaning ice bins during clean play?? we clean ours every night
Avuneon [OP] 14 points 2y ago
I know that is what is SUPPOSED to happen. Just further proving how terrible a manager he is.
softcronch 4 points 2y ago
yeah you're manager should be enforcing those standards, for sure. sorry you have to work in that environment. eugh.
Lilium816 2 points 2y ago
Or I mean, you could just take the 3 minutes to do it yourself....

Ultimately it’s the manager’s responsibility to make sure the store is running up to standard. I bet this isn’t the only thing that’s being neglected and that’s the manager’s fault not the barista’s. Yes when you see something that needs to be done you should do it but at the end of the day what is the manager there for if he’s not efficiently running the store?
heeyloves 24 points 2y ago
That’s disgusting! Call hr or partner resources ASAP!
Avuneon [OP] 11 points 2y ago
He just had us wash it away with hot water... I dumped half a bottle of 'restroom cleaner' after that
heeyloves 4 points 2y ago
You know as long as you and your partners are in a safe working environment, that should be the first priority. If it came off easily it probably wasn’t black mold but you should always double check please! Be safe!
Avuneon [OP] 12 points 2y ago
My manager does not make us feel safe.
heeyloves 3 points 2y ago
I’m so sorry you have to go through that :( please call and get some help
Imsounfrappy 3 points 2y ago
You are NOT supposed to clean ice bins with hot water. You have to use room temperature sanitizer water. There is also a food safe spray that you can use.
Avuneon [OP] 2 points 2y ago
Our manager told us to do this.
Millerboycls09 1 points 2y ago
Your manager has already messed this up bad enough, and probably gotten people sick.
Kartoshka_pricel 15 points 2y ago
Sorry, let me get this straight... YOU DONT DO FUCKING CLEAN PLAY?!?!?!?! Excuse the motherfuck me, but who decided that they should be a manager?!?!
Avuneon [OP] 7 points 2y ago
I have no idea how he became manager. Sure, he's good at organising, but we'd probably be better off with no manager at all.
dodofishman 5 points 2y ago
We don't do it either. We did twice and then once a few months back during the day and that was it. Closing crew just breaks our back to clean everything. It's fucking gross, trying to transfer soon
Guilty_Owlz 2 points 2y ago
We haven't done clean play since COVID started, but we've just been cleaning fairly regularly while we're open and on super slow days, we hit stuff like ice bins and Hobart, etc.
hotheadedbarista 5 points 2y ago
This alone could get all Starbucks shut down
AndrewtheRey 4 points 2y ago
My store hasn’t had a clean play since July and judging by the fact that the ice bins are always full every day at opening in my store, I think ours don’t get cleaned either. I should make a note to clean them after seeing this
Avuneon [OP] 3 points 2y ago
Yes, don't let it get this bad
matroid21 2 points 2y ago
Reminds me of the manager in my district who threw out the mats cause they were “dirty”
Avuneon [OP] 1 points 2y ago
Oh, that happened here, too. Wait, aren't they supposed to be required by OSHA?
matroid21 1 points 2y ago
Yes they are. Report your manager to your DM anonymously or try to transfer.
Avuneon [OP] 1 points 2y ago
DM and SM are friends

I had to clean the cabinet under our ice bin a coupel weeks back and it looked like this (but x10) manager said its from anything that got spilled in the ice bin, not black mold (as I originally thought)
Avuneon [OP] 1 points 2y ago
Either way, it is NOT okay.
lilangel05 1 points 2y ago
I agree, we need more hands, Labor
