submitted by Maven6
Hey so im hoping to move to the Portland area, preferably in Vancouver but I'd like to work in portland...im from indiana and have been a partner for about two years, I will be transferring somewhere around the end of 2020.....im just looking for general info about working in a portland oregon location ....as well as how it is to live around there cause the cost of living is substantially higher than in indiana

Portland is pretty huge so the areas differ. It’s really expensive to live here, and you get a lot of drug addicts and Karens. Like, that’s kinda it. Oregon is still on fire so just mind that I guess lmao

Do you live in portland? Can you sustain rent abd whatnot just from stabucks or is it really hard?

I live just outside portland but know baristas who live in Portland. Based on a barista’s wage, I don’t think you could afford to live alone. Most of the cheapest apartments average like $1,200/month. If you want to live alone I might look into other jobs tbh

Ok good yo know, I was thinking I could work in portland and maybe live in Vancouver but I haven't worked out all the details, living actually in portland sounds like a serious task in itself thank you a ton though

Yeah dude for sure. Transportation would be cheaper too since everyone just uses public transport. Just narrow down the details and you’ll be fine. Good luck!

If you gonna live in Vancouver I would advice to also work there. Getting across that bridge back and forth will be a pain on the ass with all the traffic. Plus working in Vancouver will mean no state income tax. And you can still go to portland to buy stuff so you don’t have to pay sales tax.

Source: lived there for years before leaving to go travel and move to CA afterwards

PS: the pay in Vancouver and portland is the same (at least it was few months back when I called PRSC and asked).

Wow thank you thats super useful info yeah I've been reading how bad traffic can get i took a trip to Portland early August but didn't get to experience it at its worst i was planning to do public transportation but if the pay is the same whats the point in not working in vancouver ya know
