Haha love the fact that starbucks was the turning point in your life where “ yup never doing this food service job again” lol
AndrewtheRey 3 points 2y ago
It was. I’ve worked a couple food service jobs before and they weren’t near as bad as Starbucks, mainly because I was kitchen. I believed the “connecting over a cup of coffee” BS when I started but my store is the busiest in the district and we run 5 person AM peaks DAILY. I shouldn’t have to run the whole drive thru and get chewed for high window times and lack of speed because corporate wants to cut our labor budget while simultaneously complaining about customer connections and drive thru speed. My last job was directing traffic and even that was better than dealing with customers and corporate here. My new job will have a set daily schedule, I won’t have to deal with anyone besides coworkers and superiors, and I will be bidding on shifts where my schedule is consistent and it will change every 3 months.

I’m a cafe but I also cover at DT stores and yeah it’s pretty sad,,, but glad you got away and have something better now

You’re lucky to be in a cafe store. I never did cover at another store but I agree. My time is up and I won’t be looking back. I’ll still leave a notice just in case

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

I left back in June when the severance package was offered, and I am so much happier. Starbucks does offer some good benefits for some people, but I just don't think the job is worth it. The mental state that it puts you in alone is enough to just walk out and never look back.

**To the people that think of it as an easy job and just as "pouring coffee"....** trust me, it's not. On a usual 8hr shift, I could average 12,000-15,000 steps, and be so exhausted that everything hurt and I couldn't get anything else finished without struggling. Coming home smelling like coffee, taking a shower, and still smelling like coffee when trying to go to sleep is the worst. There were shifts where the regulars would literally come up to a shift supervisor and tell them that I needed a break since I was just dead exhausted. It definitely takes a toll on you, both mentally and physically.

I applaud your decision and best wishes wherever you end up :)
