When I was at Starbucks I would take the first opportunity to just throw the cash in the tip jar when the person wanted to pay it forward in cash..I figure they’re already coming through to pay for stuff and my coworkers work hard enough

My go to was “the car behind you has a $100 corporate order pickup ” or “they have a mobile pickup and already paid, have a great day!”
ETA: I’m not against public goodwill or whatever, but it just gets super confusing when your doing 20 other things and keeping it in order. Also who benefits? The person who ends it and is just confused and goes about their day? And then are they the asshole for not continuing an unexpected donation chain that ends with them not wanting to pay $7 for a $3 coffee?
