Food handler card question (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Horror_Fruitcake_19
I just moved to a new store (I’m in California) and I already have an active food handlers card for California, but my manager is telling me I have to get a new food handlers card for the county. I’ve been with Starbucks for about 5 years and I’ve had two other stores (in different counties) and I was never told to do that. Me and my new manager aren’t really on good terms and I’m supposed to be transferring again in three weeks. I’m not sure if he’s trying to give me a hard time. I don’t want to pay for a new card if I already have one, especially because I’m transferring anyway. Advice?

the only counties i know of that require a county specific card are riverside, san bernardino, and mayyybe san diego(?). if you’re in one of those counties unfortunately you have to go through their separate programs :/

Yeah San Bernardino required a specific FH card when I worked fast food there a couple years ago.

That said, Starbucks SHOULD cover the costs of the program. Starbucks covered mine online when I needed a new one because I transferred to a store in a new state for grad school.

That's what I was told- it was for Texas. It was online and through the partner hub, the food handler's training I did for the state of Texas. I'm not currently working in California (different food service job when I was there).

Thank you I appreciate it!

So counties in SoCal require you to have a food handlers card for that county and not the one for the state of CA. I’m in SD county and I had to get SD county food handlers card, not the CA state one.

Yeah I get that, I think my biggest thing is that I’m leaving in two weeks, so I don’t get why I have to buy it all of a sudden if I’m already leaving. You know?
