Have an open and honest conversation with your SM. I know that mine has said that as long as she has people who can cover the availability that she needs, she will try and work with my schedule. I know I was nervous about restricting availability in the beginning, but it’s working out for me and the store.

Listen: Just because you don't have an active commitment (such as class or another job) doesn't mean that the time slot MUST be available for Starbucks. You are allowed to mark time as unavailable because it's date night (or the morning after!) or because that's your mental health time or whatever other personal reason you have.
You should reframe your availability as: when I am able AND WILLING to come to work.
It may affect the number of hours that you get scheduled; YMMV because it depends on your manager schedules.

I guess that maybe scheduling flexibility varies by store (how many partners they have, and how open those partners’ availabilities are) but I just change my availability online like. All the time. And it’s not a problem. I’m also a college student so my schedule changes every semester and for example i *hate* working sundays so i just took them off. I can see why you may be hesitant and want to be there to help out, but your school and also your mental health can come first!
