Depending on the location, 13 an hour might not even begin to cover basic living expenses.
dodofishman3 points2y ago
That would barely cover here in south TX, and our cost of living is considered cheap

I don’t think it can cover living expenses anywhere in CA. I’ve lived in the central coast my whole life and yeah, $13/hr is unlivable. But the benefits sound great. Not sure if it’s still worth it

I live in Alabama where we only get paid $11 an hour to be shift leads. That's not even really a liveable wage here so I can only imagine how rough that is in Cali.

$11 to be SHIFT LEADS? FOH with that lmao
Mr-Snack1 points2y ago
Right lol and my boss keeps telling me that it's worth it when I could lose $2 and go back to being a basic barista. I just don't want to do this forever so the idea of being a shift lead or trying to become an SM just isn't ideal or worth it to me. I'm going back to glassblowing as soon as I can find a shop or place to set up.

That’s minimum wage. Cost of living here is super expensive.
IntrepidCase [OP]1 points2y ago
Yeah I’ve lived here my whole life and $13/hr is kind of a slap in the face

Better off working at a grocery store out here. More money. Union work etc.

Starbucks wages are a slap in the face. You can go to a grocery store like Kroger or Safeway and earn more than that and target is $15 across the board, which is high for my smaller city in Indiana.

Depends what store and team you end up in. I got lucky and have a [mostly] wonderful and loving group of coworkers who are practically a second family, and a Store Manager who [mostly] actually listens to our concerns and does something about them.
