Call out. I’m sure they’ll understand, and I’d check and see if anyone could cover your shift beforehand. Even if they can’t though, I’m sure they’d figure something out and given the circumstances a day off is very understandable.

Just adding you don’t even have to tell them why if you don’t feel comfortable talking about this with them.

big thank you to everyone in this thread, they’re okay but they’ve been institutionalized in a place that has nothing but horror stories in its reviews so i’m still very worried for them. i texted my SM last night and called my shift about ten minutes ago and aside from a very hollow “sorry for your loss” she just told me to call my SM. so i guess i’ll be doing that.

I would say call out it should be understanding, I’m a shift and was in the same position and all I could do is mentally get myself together and my SM understood, take care of yourself honestly!
