So cute, I love the turtle 🥺 looks way better than my boards ever do haha

Thank you! I spend a decent amount of time at home planning/sketching until I’m happy with the result. I’m definitely not great at it (my writing goes slowly dropping down the side of the board) but the partners and customers at my store like it and each time I do one, I get better. I’m sure yours are great!

I just don’t see the point when 99% of customers ask for a straw anyways
bigghostb00ty [OP]4 points2y ago
I feel like it’s getting better as they get used to them at my store. It’s just a fun little way to educate them about the lids. Half of my customers look confused when they see there’s no straw with their order. Plus I’ll take any excuse to draw signs.

I used to make cute little signs on printed out pictures of coffee to-go cups and hearts. One of the store managers in our city had the idea to do this after quarantine to welcome back customers and spread positivity and support. I made some for the kiwi starfruit refresher, pumpkin spice, fox cake pop, puppuccinos and catuccinos, etc., etc. I and my fellow baristas posted our signs we made at the drive-thru windows. But our brand new manager apparently thought they weren't appropriate or maybe against regulation (one of my shift supervisors said they aren't) or maybe she just didn't like them and threw them away. :-( At least customers saw them for a short while before we got a new manager.

46% of plastic in the ocean is fishing nets.
pink_haired_bitch1 points2y ago
True, but every little bit helps :)
aesopamnesiac1 points2y ago
Sure, but I think anyone who claims to care about the issue should be aware. How else could they know that cutting out fish from their diet is the only way to make any effective difference? Clearly they care or cutting out straws shouldn't matter
pink_haired_bitch0 points2y ago
Well if we want to get into that, then we have to consider buying from reputable places who either use good fishing companies or companies who use fish farms and don’t use nets in the ocean. We can’t just tell people to cut out all meats and dairy and fish and eggs and ignore the fact that people are trying. So many of these fishing companies aren’t even our own, they’re from other countries and it’s gonna take more than posting on reddit saying that straws aren’t the problem when all someone is trying to do is make cute art and try to help however they can. Personally I feel every step forward is positive even if it’s small. We all know fishing nets are the problem, commenting that they are while completely skipping over the fact that someone posted this because they thought it was cute not only implies that cutting out straws don’t help at all but that what they’re doing isn’t worth doing. Just ease up a little and appreciate the turtle art

I'm literally just sharing an objective fact related to the topic. Maybe you ease up.

While I appreciate less plastic, how does going straw-less prevent more straws in the ocean? Do American garbage companies actually dump in the ocean, anymore? Doesn't something like 90% of the oceans' garbage originate from SE Asia and Africa?
