Starbucks UK System (Franchise vs. License vs. Company-Owned) (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Diplogeek
Hi all, I'm considering applying for a job at a Starbucks in the UK, and after doing some reading, I understand that the system here is a bit more complicated in the States, in that most of the stores are either licensed or franchises. I've never worked for Starbucks before, so I'm not totally clear on what the implications are (if any) for working at, say, a franchise store versus a Starbucks-owned store, or how I would be able to tell whether the location where I'm applying is one or the other. Can anyone in the UK give me any insight into this? For instance, does it have an impact on what company benefits you receive, annual leave, that kind of thing? Also, just an idea of how your experience has been working for Starbucks would be great, too. Thanks!

I work for soul coffee which is a franchise and in my area (Surrey/Berkshire) there are a few different franchises. Soul and equity. My boyfriend works for equity and their uniform and presentation rules are much more relaxed, they are paid more and generally their DMs (district managers) seem much more friendly. However soul is also really good to work for and are pretty decent in terms of management their pay is just piss in comparison to equity. Starbucks owned stores pay the best and have the best benefits from what I know x
