Lmao US sucks at minimum wages
eddwrdd 2 points 2y ago
I get $18.32 I believe it’s the starting shift wage. I live in Downtown La area but work in West Hollywood area.

Man that could buy a house in my area... I met a barista who lived in LA county and made over $15 as a barista and came back home and transferred and her pay went down to $9.87.

Michigan is around 11.60 (not a shift but I know the rate). Our min wage is 9.45 so that’s pretty low. McDonalds and every other fast food chain ever pays more. Baristas start at 9.66 which is also garbage.

Where I’m at in Michigan I get 11.94 as a shift for 2 years, its such bullshit lol
ContentAd490 1 points 2y ago
It is b.s. Just as a barista making 9.66 made me wanna cry and then I drive by McDonald’s and they start at 10.50 and BK starts around 12. And then Starbucks acts like it’s a privilege to be a “barista” instead of a “burger flipper.”

When I worked at Starbucks in a different state where min wage was 7.25, I made 8.30 and while that’s less than what I made in Michigan at least it was a dollar more than min wage so it seemed nicer.

SAME!!! I am leaving Starbucks for this reason. BK and Mcd’s have the WORST service and also their work is easier (I’ve worked at McDonald’s) and the fact that someone can work at McDonald’s making more is unreal.
ContentAd490 2 points 2y ago
Yeah and the fact that if you quit McDonald’s without a two weeks notice, no one ever cares because the job sucks. Starbucks brainwashes you into thinking it’s a great privilege and they deserve a two weeks notice (and sometimes staying longer) just to help them out. So frustrating how they market themselves like it’s a job worth having because we sell overpriced coffee. Not to mention~ I at least understand McDonald’s paying 10.50 because their products are 1-4$ while Starbucks sells one drink for $5. The margin is gross for how underpaid workers are

$11.16, but I was only promoted this past summer. a lot of places in Texas still want to pay $7.25, so I def got lucky with my pay rate. If i could get $15 though....
Brilliant_Story609 1 points 2y ago
All Starbucks in Texas start baristas at $9.00 so the starting shift rate is no less than $10 here. I am a 19 year partner so believe me, I know.

Starting shift pay is 16.04 in san diego County.... its higher in san diego city because their minimum wage is higher.

$16 as a 5-year SSV in the suburbs of Chicago
