Injury questions? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by timberwolff8450
I was injured at work recently, and was told by my physician I can’t return to work until a specified future date to recover. The injury was a result of another partners negligence, not mine. When I told my SMwhat the doctor said, she told me I have to find coverage for my shifts or else “she didn’t know what I was gonna do”. Supposedly implying I’d be reprimanded for not working my shift. Can someone provide me with a recourse or shed light on whether or not this can be asked of me?

She’s wrong. I mean she sounds like a stickler. So stop in for 5 mins and show her the actual paper maybe? But even so, you’re not responsible for finding coverage for your shifts. That’s on her. (SM’s seem to put everything else on shifts and barista’s for shit like this lately....)
But policy is policy. And if you can’t go in and wave that doctors note in her face, you did send a pic. (Obviously is you can’t come into work because of said situation!) and if she does anything, go to your DM. Document everything. I dunno, it seems like SM’s are being super shady across the board lately. Stand your ground because you’re not in the wrong with a doctors note and it is NOT your responsible to find coverage for said doctor’s note reasonings.

If it’s more than three days, you have to take an LOA.

If you bring a doctor’s note stating you can’t work, you won’t be reprimanded.

But that’s the thing. I got one stating all the necessary info, and sent her a picture of it and she still said I was responsible for covering my shifts.

You’re not. She is. That’s her job as manager. If she’s trying to pressure you into finding people to cover when you’re out for a work-related injury, that’s bull. Call your DM. Call PCC if you have to. I hope you heal well and quickly, friend!
