You’re legally required to take breaks, and too many missed meals can result in corrective action for your manager or for you as an SSV. Some states have zero tolerance for missed breaks, but it’s still law and company policy that you must take your breaks.

Ohhhh, I see. Thanks for the insight, I had no clue.

Adding that I got written up for not taking my 30mins so yes it can in fact happen so take your breaks!

However 10s are paid and you do not need to clock out for them.

Duly noted for next time, I honestly didn’t know it was a problem. It’s not a legal requirement at my other job, so I was under the assumption that it was kinda personal choice, but you should take them because they’re factored into labor hours.

Its a department of labor requirement to take a lunch. Not just a starbucks requirement.

I hate knowing there are stores that normalize not taking breaks. Doesn’t matter how crazy it is, every person on my floor is getting a break. Customers can wait, we’re people too!

Forcing you to take the 30 minutes is also protection for the company.

Some one who voluntarily forgoes lunch breaks could later come back and claim that management didn't allow them to take the breaks.

Shame on your manager for allowing you to skip your breaks. Are they unaware you are forgoing and manually punch in breaks for you or do they know you are forgoing and not care.

At my store, even people who extend their shift by picking up a few hours and don’t say anything to the shift get a talking to because it means the shift was unable to properly assign them their breaks.

I honestly don’t know, usually of labor is higher he’s more adamant I take them but if it’s busy (which we tend to be) he lets it slide. I personally just don’t like taking breaks most of the time, I work better when I just surge through. But knowing it’s an actual legal requirement definitely changes things I suppose.
