Is this allowed??? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Tarable-03
Is it ok for a Store Manager to write up the shift on duty for the exact same thing that Store Manager themselves got written up for from the District Manager??? Is that even allowed??? I just want a couple opinions based off this before I say anything else.

Why wouldn’t it be allowed?

Your SM did something that got them written up. Your shift did the same thing and got written up. It seems pretty consistent to me.

It was the same occurence the shift was written up for that the SM was written up for. Same event that is. The DM told her that she needed to go in and support the store when there were two people running it and her knowing how many people called out. The SM did nothing to help out and so they closed the lobby for that time period till they could get more partners in.

If your SM didn’t give the shift permission to close the lobby, they are well within their right to write the shift up.

Frankly, it sounds to me like your SM has more grounds to file a complaint because the expectation your manager either have no life or drop whatever they’re doing to cover the store on their day off is unrealistic.

To me, there’s too many questions I have about the situation before I’d be willing to say “the SM did nothing to help”.

I would need further details, but if your SM got written up for a shift supervisor breaking policies, it stands to reason the shift would also get a write up, seeing as how they are the ones at fault.

They got written up for closing the lobby because there were two people on shift and no one could come in to support. Including the SM. She got written up and told that she should have come in and supported her store. So in retaliation, the shift got written up for it because they couldnt run the whole store like that for a block schedule.

Yeah, I was always told to shut down the drive before the lobby, and neither without the permission of the DM. It's not retaliation, shutting it down is a fireable offense. So ssv got off lucky!!!

Yes the SM and SSV can both be written up because they both made mistakes. SM’s are always expected to come in if needed unless they are on approved vacation or sick. SSVs cannot make decisions about closing a store early except in rare occasions such as robbery or if every single person called out and the SSV would be the only one who showed up to the shift.

That’s crazy, a nearly exact same thing happened at my store, only difference is the ssv had persmiaon from the sm to close the lobby due to there being only two people
