Tall rant (self.starbucksbaristas)

My experience at sbux has been a mess which is expected, I'm just annoyed dude. I'm in it for ASU so I gotta stay, but people make it really hard. My store is mostly 20 year olds, and it's been really catty and petty lately. I just got blamed for messing up some backups last night but haven't been here for 2 days? That kind of thing. It just kind of adds up and there's 0 support from management. Last SM was a beam of positivity but also prevented anyone from calling anything in so she could get her bonuses, so morale is kinda low cus the store is pretty run down. My coworkers like to blame each other for it instead of management/corporate. I have this job to pay bills and get my degree, so I keep my head down but it stresses me out for sure

I might just transfer to a more mature store. Anyone been in a similar situation? Could use advice on what to do and how to stay positive, I'm not tryna fight anyone lol

There aren't many mature stores left. They cannot pay adults competitive wages and the college benefit doesn't help. I just talked to the manager at my local Wendy's. 14.50 an hour to start. Baristas at my store make 9.51. Wtf? Waffle House pays their cooks $15 an hour, plus bonuses and stock options. Both places have full health benefits and hire full time employees. I'm just saying I can go somewhere tomorrow and make more.

It's insane dude. I could make way more money, but I need the benefits. It's a trap, but that's not an error.

This 259 is 100% with you on this. I started $BUX after one major natural disaster hit the area; been thru 2 more since. Of the 6+ non-management partners born before 1990 who work in this area, its only the medical benefits that keep us here. Our DM changes every 9 months, and the SM are obsessed with getting DT times to 30 seconds. Only 1 person to my knowledge has ever been reprimanded and that was a theft that ended with termination.

HERE, ≈95% of the baristas are in the 17-24 year old range. Not a one knows what a work ethic is and no one takes responsibility for anything. Unless one of us “old people” get disgusted with the state of something, it doesn’t get fixed/cleaned. More than 3 out of 4 customers are Tourist Karen’s so even if the stores were running perfect we’d still get low customer satisfaction scores.

But the only jobs that are hiring are Retail, Fast food, and Hospitality. All pay minimum wage +10%. No one but us pays any benefits until you are there for a full year. Since most of these kids bail out before then I doubt it will ever change.

I'm 20, I've just had 4 food service jobs already because I'm striving for financial independence and my family doesn't have money, it be like that. It's frustrating to try to get my coworkers who are peers, but have this job bc their parents made them, to have the standards we need, and it's not like corporate is providing any incentive. I'd quit in a heartbeat but there's not really any other flexible job that gives you a bachelor's at 20hrs a week :(
