How exhausting is waking up at 3 am to open 5 days a week you ask? I fell asleep at 3 pm yesterday to “nap” ..... I just work up at 7 am this morning. A bitch is tired.

This is my availability right now too. Naps have never been more precious.
EmAlkaline63 points2y ago
I feel you there. I open 5 days a week, too. Getting my Masters program done is proving incredibly difficult :(
cristianap3624 points2y ago
But is it worth it? If yes, first comes the pain then life gets a little easier when you finish your master's program and quit star bucks
EmAlkaline19 points2y ago
Yeah, I’ve been working at least one full-time job on top of full-time school since I was 17. It sucks, but I’m hoping it’ll be worth it in the end. I think I’m just tired, but who isn’t?? With the way our economy works, it doesn’t work for young people, let alone people stuck in minimum-wage jobs.

Yea I feel you

Question since I’m in the same boat but my SM isn’t respecting my requests: how do you set a clear boundary on hours, specifically since research time isn’t a “class time” but it still involves work? Currently, I’m scheduled 15 hrs over my requested max and I don’t have time to sleep or finish school things

Wow! Do we have the same manager??? I’m just trying to stick it out until November to get my stock then I’m going to just rely solely on what I get teaching. Unfortunately I suck at saying no but I need to start sticking up for myself more.
Thanks for the advice!

Definitely don’t work any more than you can!! You can do this!

Good! Things are extra tough now with COVID being a thing. I know my store’s busier than it’s ever been, and we’ve always been one of the top 3 busiest stores in the district. Everything’s absolutely crazy all the time for everyone these days. Your health takes precedence over anything else, I’m glad you haven’t forgotten that!!
_Pulltab_3 points2y ago
I’m in the exact same boat.
EmAlkaline1 points2y ago
Good luck, friend. I know you can do it! We’re almost to the finish line for our schooling!
_Pulltab_1 points2y ago
Same to you!

I feel this; I keep accidentally taking naps in the afternoon instead of hanging out with my kid all night after school. :(
Momisnotmyname9 points2y ago
Haha this is so my life! M-F open and the once or two Saturdays.
I usually sub teach, but right now just teaching my own kid.
Arianasagapo4 points2y ago

Those 16 hour naps are the best
Kaywin3 points2y ago
This is why I set my availability the way it is. I work at a DT and there were too many times I’d be asked to work till 8 PM then immediately the next day, told to open. I became available 5A to 9:30P except on special occasions (holiday pay, lol.)
HGoddess882 points2y ago
As the main opening shift, naps have become my best friend

I feel ya, back when I was with the bux I worked 430a-11a at bux and then went and worked until 5 at my other job and I almost always went to bed right after my other job
bigghostb00ty2 points2y ago
I feel you... I work overnights and my life is just sleep and work.
Momisnotmyname2 points2y ago

Brilliant_Story6091 points2y ago
That is my life Monday thru Friday! Usually though my naps only last an hour and a half. I’m a little jealous of you right now.
Gemma_V1 points2y ago
I fell asleep at 4pm and woke up at midnight I cannot fall asleep again and i open in 4 hours Please kill me
Riptose131 points2y ago
So this is me. My store has block scheduling and I’m never in later than 6, more often opening than not.
I have transitioned from a normal person who drinks coffee occasionally
Into a fucking espresso goblin. 6 shot blonde updosed drinks at 4 am will awaken things inside of you.
Lav-toast1 points2y ago
I used to open for almost a year. My fucked up sleeping schedule made me very depressed. I had to stop. I loved getting off early but then realized that napping for the rest of the day, wasn’t making me have productive days.
eietna1 points2y ago
I just got rehired after a 6 month break. Drive thru store for the first time. They are understaffed AND a partner was on vacay. So I opened for a 8 hour shift 4 days in a row. Had a "day off" and worked 2 more days. I also have a one year old and a two year old. So the sleep I got was minimal. And after my shift today I also did a protest. Exhaustion isn't strong enough of a word, my friend. I feel you. I see you. Great fucking job.
ohheellllno1 points2y ago
You’re getting 5 days a week?? I’m a shift and the most my SM is giving me is 15 hours. I am getting a third job bc she just hired on 13 transfers.... fml
