Hi everyone! I found out today that Starbucks hired me to work for them. Any tips for new hires, or anythinf I should prepare myself for?

just be prepared in the future that you will have to deal with the most stupidest customers ever but since you’re new, your trainee/baristas will back you up and support ya

I have come to learn that stupid customers are a given at this point 😭 Thanks for the advice!

A friend/store manager told to assume everybody knows nothing.
Also the timers are your friend and always be on your toes.
Practice sequencing!!!!!!!!!!!!(im 4 years in and I still dont do it right lol)
When someone comes into the store always greet them.
Keep your head on a swivel. If i notice a customer waiting a bit to long i ask them what their drink is and tell then its coming right up.
Best of luck green bean!

Remind yourself every day that it’s just coffee. People will make things a way bigger deal than they need to be, just stay calm and try to relax as much as possible. It’s so much harder to work effectively (and enjoy your job) when you’re stressing

I’m a little over a month in (I also used to do part time at tarbucks) the biggest thing is customer connection. About 85-90% of sales is from regulars who always compliment on how nice and welcoming we are. My speed definitely needs improvement but even my store manger says that she gets into a slow pace even working there for 10+ years. If you are making those connections the 1-2mins of making the drink makes it go by fast from a customer perspective (also the regulars understand if it takes a little longer). Some days you’ll be slinging drinks left and right but other days you feel like you can’t get it together but don’t sweat it. If someone can’t wait for their coffee then they should think about making their own at their house.

I'm a month in and while you should try to work on your speed, as someone downthread said, its just coffee. You can either take a tiny bit of time and make a quality drink, or you can rush and their drink will suck. Also when you learn to steam milk, start with the wand submerged or you WILL get milk everywhere.
