I want to get promoted to customer or idk help?(self.starbucksbaristas)

Hi! Ive been struggling to come up with that i should do. Starbucks is my first job and i don’t like it. Everyone’s so nice and amazing, it’s just me, i’m now *trigger warning* very very depressed. I never get put on bar, ive been working for sb for more than a month now and i just do front, dishes, ovens, and dt. I love the regulars and they’re so sweet but i just physically and mentally can’t. My store is understaffed like most of you know, it’s happening everywhere, so i feel terrible to even think of leaving because i’ve gotten along so well with everyone. I just need a 9-5 job where i can just have a life you know. I’m always on dishes and i absolutely hate it, and dt is where i’m always in a good mood because i have something to distract me, but it’s rare for me to be there because the shifts always have the same person on there, even though i’m good with the times. Can i just get some advice on what you guys think i should do? the manager is very picky on who she hires so i just feel terrible, but she’s too into micromanaging and she always watches what i do and they keep blaming me for mistakes over whips and toddy’s and stuff.

I didn’t get put on bar for the first 6 months I worked here. A month is not that long.

The other people I trained with do bar alone.

I can tell this is your first job. Advice - ask to be in bar. Don’t assume anyone knows how you feel - TELL THEM. At the beginning of every shift talk to the shift/SM. I would like to do XXX Can I try to do XXX
If they are blaming you for toddy’s that’s BS. Let it roll off your back. Yes the SM is going to micromanage - you haven’t been there long at all. ST ALL. Expect advice, listen to it, adjust as needed. Prove to them you want to be there and tell them what you need to be successful.
BTW this advice works for all jobs, not just SB.

Most baristas don’t end up on bar for months. That’s not unusual. It takes a good 4-6 months from that point to feel like you can stand on your own two feet.

I know it's your first job and I'm not sure what your expectations are, but even when you start getting bar time it probably won't change all that much.
You'll still get rotated around and management will likely have a favored position or positions for you during peak periods based on what they perceive your strength to be.
It's possible that Starbucks just isn't your thing.

no yeah i know, that’s why i just wanted advice :( but i’m going to stay and ask for less hours just to see what happens.

I know where you’re coming from! My first few months I was just dto/dtw & it was draining, after every shift I felt over it & it gets better over time I am now one of the strongest cold bar partners!

Ive been working at my starbucks for about 2ish months, and I just started asking to get some bar time. Now whenever it is slow, my shifts put me on bar with an experienced barista. I would just keep asking and pestering

I had to keep asking to be put on bar since I was new, but I knew what I was doing on bar so I proved it to them and after about 3 months I get put on regularly ! Even solo bar when it’s not insane

I’ve been here for little over a year and I just want to say I never want to Touch Bar ever again. I feel like I’m always on bar. I just want to face an oven and warm things. Even better? I’d love to be in the back making cold brew and doing dishes.
I’m so fed up with bar. It’s non stop stickers all the time. These new rinsers are fucking up my wrist. I just want a chance to clean and restock.
When I first started I hated being on support. I felt so awkward like I was the garbage man. Now I haven’t been support in so long (since I demoted myself) and that’s all I want in this world.
It’ll change. Don’t worry

Thank you :( i’m sorry you feel that way, ask to do something different once in a while, i know how overwhelming it gets.

Its not that my shifts don’t know. It’s that we are just understaffed af and I’m one of the only two, maybe three people who can bar during peak and not fall ridiculously behind

i still don’t understand why they don’t hire more people faster :/

They actually just put a cap on hours (at least where I am.) No one. Not even shifts. Are going to be scheduled for more than 20-25 hours a week
