mental health at starbucks (self.starbucksbaristas)

this is my first ever time posting so sorry if I’m doing it wrong alsooo trigger warning :)

basically I work at starbucks and I have an eating disorder. I struggle to eat anything, besides fruit, and often just order tea while working. Nobody at work knows about my problem and I always wear baggy clothes so nobody can really see me. okay so here’s how it ties in with starbucks lmao, all of the people I work with are super judgemental, like I love them all but sometimes i feel like it worsens my situation. My go to drink is an iced passion tea no liquid cane sugar and 2 stevia, one of my coworkers tried it and made a hugeee deal about it and saying it was sooo sweet and they didn’t know how I could drink something so sugary. Like I know she has no idea about my ed and I know she was just joking and meant absolutely no harm but :// I just feel like everyone should just be more sensitive towards each other because we never know what another person is going through. I think commenting on what people are eating or drinking maybe isn’t the move ? but idk maybe I’m just being dramatic

im so sorry youre going through that. coworkers can be so insensitive sometimes :( also how in the hell is that too sweet!? unsweetened tea with two stevias? sounds delicious to me and not too sweet at all. you keep doing you babe💛

As a regular stevia user, I can see how someone can think it's too sweet since stevia tastes sweeter than white sugar but 2 stevia should not make that much of a difference. For perspective, I use two stevias in my hot coffee at times and to get that same sweetness, I need like a tablespoon of sugar.

Still, I'm gonna have to try that too! Sounds like a perfect balance of sweetness!

this makes me really sad. everyone at my store is so nice & uplifting, I hate reading about stores that lack this sensitivity. Have you taken advantage of Lyra? I wish I could give you a hug!! 🤍🤍

thank you 💛 I’m Canadian so I’m not quite sure what Lyra is :)

sorry for the delayed response!! Lyra is a mental health app that allows US partners 20 sessions/year with a counselor... I would hope Canada partners have access to it or something similar, it wouldn’t hurt to ask your shifts or management about it. I hope you’re feeling better 🤍
