submitted by strawbubbie_

I became a shift after 8 months at starbucks, with a 1 month leave of absence included in that.

My advice, don’t kiss up, but do the best you can at your job, help coach others (but only when needed, don’t constantly try and tell other baristas what to do). Follow the important rules, do things by policy, let your SM know that you are interested in becoming a shift as well.

Also don’t be a know it all, I’ve seen people use that tactic and it never works.

Good luck!

I became a shift after 2 months. (Did have prior experience). What I tell my fellow baristas that want to move up is to first speak with the manager and let them know their intentions. Then the manager can have check ins with you and see how it’s going. They may have specific things they want you to improve on or focus on.

My biggest things personally are being able to handle rushes without panicking and being able to see what needs to be done without having to be asked (be proactive).
