We're off to a great start, here 😬(self.starbucksbaristas)

One of the other openers is calling out and the other one is nowhere to be seen. I'm just sitting here in my car.
I know this isn't unheard of, but I'm still a fairly new SSV, so I haven't run into this before
Update: 8 minutes until open and I'm still in my car. No other openers in sight and no one is answering me. This is fine.
Update 2: we are now supposed to be open. I'm still sitting in my car. Next barista isn't scheduled for another half an hour. Weekends, am I right???

Yes this is how it is. Just sit in the car. Store opens late. Life moves on.
Never ever ever ever open alone.

Thats what I did, yeah :) (the sitting in the car, not the opening alone, lol)
It was kinda nice to get paid just to sit there and do nothing

The shift that when I was a barista I was supposed to be opening with one morning was an hour and a half late. I was just sitting out front calling whoever I could but no one was picking up. After it was time for us to open customers were coming up to the door and I had to tell them that the person with the keys hasn’t showed up yet. I could see mobile orders printing from outside it was terrible.
And when they finally got there we had an insane amount of mobile orders to catch up on, people were starting to come inside and I havent woken up any of the espresso machines or made any teas or brewed any coffee. So much stress on a lil ol barista me 😪

When my teams stopped showing up or would call out I was still expected to open alone. I tried to walk out once, after it happened 3x in a week. Are you allowed to just. Not work and wait? Like you can't be alone?

I asked my store manager about this. She said that we cannot be in the starbucks alone for two reasons. One, if we get robbed then theres only one of us and we are more in danger as only one witness. Two, there should always be two people there when money is involved as a security measure against theft by employees and to serve as alibis for each other if something goes missing and the Brink's people have to investigate something.
I asked about this when I came in at 3:45 for my shift at 4 and the opener barista who was supposed to be there at 3:15 didn't get there until after me and after I parked the ssv got out of her car and walked up with me.

Corporate Starbucks policy is that you can’t have only one barista in the building. It has to be two or more for safety and security reasons.
GreatWizardH0wl1 points2y ago
It could be because I work for a Barnes and Nobles but uh. Kinda angry that I didn't have to do that if I worked for a corporate store.
astivana1 points2y ago
It’s entirely possible it’s different for Barnes and Nobles. Are you alone in the building or are there other B&N employees?
GreatWizardH0wl1 points2y ago
When this happened, alone.

Sounds like Starbucks!

I’ve entered the store alone and started opening duties before. I don’t drive and when it’s still dark out I’d rather be inside the store rather than outside by myself.

You. Will. Get. Fired. For. This.

I hope your SM and DM don’t know because that is fireable
michy8081 points2y ago
🤷🏾♀️if my opening barista is really late or I get to work too early because of my Uber, I am not going to wait outside in the dark and be harassed by weirdos.

Not saying you’re reasons are bad, just that it’s fireable.
