General advice to myself. (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by UnrealisticThought
You have to stop taking it personal when people want their drink remade. It’s not personal. It may feel personal, when they look at you from across the bar, they hold up their drink to the person working fronts and frown. It may feel personal when they say their Almond Milk Machiato has 2% but you know it doesn’t because you steamed 2% & then dumped it in dismay & then had to wait for Almond Milk to steam. It may seem personal. But it’s not personal.

Ehhh totally get that but at least for me personally it's not that im taking it personally its that I now have to waste more time remaking their drink when its usually unnecessary and all the other customers get more irate because now their wait is longer.

I feeeel this with my soul. People who cut 5 people to tell me we they don’t taste the shot of espresso in their Mocha Cookie Frap with 4 added pumps of white mocha...”like Sam, it’s mostly sugar. Of course you don’t taste the espresso, I thought that’s what you wanted?”

Duuude I've become so petty in terms of giving out decaf shots for unnecessary remakes!!

Like if its legitimately my fault and I messed up ill happily remake it but like 90% of the time its the customer being a dumbass.

I’m generally with you on the advice to just let things go. It’s definitely a learned skill. I had a women barking orders while I was making her strawberry açaí yesterday. I had finished pouring it into the cup when she yelled there wasn’t enough ice. Even though the cup was full. I can’t imagine doing that to someone preparing my food or drink. I do have stop stop myself from saying anything back to them. It’s super hard to do but people like that really aren’t worth your time or energy.

Not being worth the time or energy is definitely the mood of this post...because honestly, some of these people make it personal, by being personally disrespectful, instead of generally rude...but then I remind myself that it’s a Starbucks problem. When I go home no one is gonna complain to me about how I didn’t put enough Sweet Cream Foam & Caramel Drizzle on their White Mocha.

Yesterday I had to remake this guys drink because “the extra caramel drizzle isn’t on the sides of the cup”. And I tried to explain to him that it was in fact on the sides of the cup but since he placed his mobile order 30 minutes ago, it has since just basically melted to the bottom of the cup. He just said “I want you to remake it it’s supposed to be on the sides of the cup”. I’m not taking it personally I am just beyond annoyed. Then he walked away with a free drink because another partner let him keep the first one.

Yeah I definitely took it super personally when I was new. Now I tell all my baristas that same advice. Can't let that stuff bother you and ruin your day. Just remake it and get them outta here lol.

Honestly the best thing to be is apathetic at this job. The less you care about trivial situations like this, the easier it is for everyone involved lol. Most times, customers who are raging about their drink expect me to be raging back. When I'm like "oh sorry i'll remake it right now" in the straightest face ever, most times they realize how ridiculous they're being over a drink and back off. Plus, you're gonna end up remaking it anyway, regardless of whether who was right or wrong. Always better to have the customer look like an asshole then both of you looking like assholes.

I don’t take anything personal at the bux. I don’t get paid enough to worry about trivial matters like high maintenance folks.
