I thought working at Starbucks would be fun, until I had to scrub the mats😭😭😭😭 (self.starbucksbaristas)

my barista said the other day “you know, i thought when i got hired as a barista i’d be making coffee.. man was i wrong” and i’ve never felt anything more

My most fustrating memory was when I was pre-close and deep cleaned the mats. The next morning when I opened, I came in to find the cleaning service deep cleaning our mats with a pressure washer. Thanks for letting me know. :/

That being said, I've retained my mat cleaning skills years later. We have an anti fatigue mat at the kitchen sink and I still clean it in the same way I cleaned Starbucks mats whenever I do floors at home.

last time i did mats. my shift pulled me to the side, like a drug deal, and said “if you do floors you can go home early” and i’ve never been so eager to do floors in all my life.

I get that people want to be baristas and just make coffee, I did too, bit any job is gonna have tasks that are hard or that you don't want to do, that's why we get paid for it. I've learned to like doing the mats because I know it will keep our store running smoothly and allow us to enjoy the moments making coffee for our regulars :) I'll complain about all the other things corporate makes us do, but cleaning ain't it

Aaawww. You poor innocent bean. Once you level up, you’ll be granted new exciting missions like cleaning biohazard matters and avoiding being bludgeoned to death by a ‘regular’.

Disclaimer: yes, we were told on multiple occasions by the SM to clean biohazards ourselves and not call the special team because it’s ‘expensive’. Another reason she gave was because SHE would do it herself so we all should do that too. :)

Oh dont worry about me kind stranger, after 10 months I've decided making soy latte isn't really my thing so I'm giving in my notice next week

Hobart the mats
stinkersmell 2 points 2y ago
...can you?
EeePeeTee 7 points 2y ago
They'll never train you to do it but it can certainly be done. You fold them in half longways first and then into 3rds in the other direction. Then they just barely fit in the Hobart.

It's controversial, dark magic. Be careful who you are around when you do this. The dark side of the force is a pathway to many abilities, some considered to be unnatural.

Yes, it totally works and works well. However, it’s kind of a no-no. Afterwards, you should definitely take the time to clean the Hobart. Including its metal filters inside. For the love of god, don’t let a DM see you do it.

Wait... you guys don’t do the mats every day?
unsolvable-paradox [OP] 1 points 2y ago
First I have to ask what country is your Starbucks and second yes, yes we do.
abbye_a 2 points 2y ago
I’m in the US. We do a lot of clean play nightly though (all pumps are done nightly. It’s SO tedious)
unsolvable-paradox [OP] 1 points 2y ago
I'm in the Caribbeans and I'd kill just to do the pumps that's easy AF unlike those heavy ass mats that always have goddamn mocha and whip cream on them, like where are making the drink? On the floor or on the counter?
abbye_a 3 points 2y ago
Hahaha we do mats every day too. They’re a pain 🥴

My store used to do them during clean play. It was hell. Then we decided to just drive them through a car wash. Honestly a big part of why I stopped doing clean play. Went and leave and now we don’t even have mats anymore
DragonPuffMagic 2 points 2y ago
Just spray with restroom cleaner and throw out in the rain. That's what my store did.

And the other store I worked at didn't clean them at all.
unsolvable-paradox [OP] 24 points 2y ago
Thanks I'll ask god to make it rain everytime I get that as my duties

The great thing about working at a tarbucks is that someone comes once a week and gives us clean mats, then takes the old ones to be cleaned. They always look so fresh and glorious.

But they don’t get cleaned at all until the guy comes, so they can get pretty nasty.
brismitty97 1 points 2y ago
damn they make u scrub them? we just spray w restroom cleaner and mop them. so they're like never fully clean but scrubbing them would be ridiculous cuz we have 6
