Green bean needing reassurance :( (self.starbucksbaristas)

So I’m on my fourth shift today. I was doing modules then switched with someone in the middle of an INSANE rush to drive thru. The warming station tickets weren’t working so I had to do warming and drive thru by myself. I got so overwhelmed the drive thru line time was over ten minutes. Then a regular drive up and started yelling at me saying that she knows i’m new but she will be calling corporate. I apologized profusely but I literally still can’t shake it. After rush slowed down I was doing just fine but i just wanted to go to the restroom and cry. Will I get fired already? I’m seriously upset 😭

You were put in an awful position. That’s not your fault. There’s no way you should have been left to your own devices on solo drive and warming. That can put even the most seasoned partner over the edge.

I’m so sorry you had to deal with that! That’s very unfair to anyone, for new and old partners. If that happens again, make sure to talk to your managers, because you have every right to ask to be in a position you can handle. Otherwise, you seem to handle yourself very well and you should be proud of yourself!

Thank you so much!! Really your kind words help.

You’re welcome! I’m glad I could help. Starbucks is definitely a tough job, and it’s ok to be sadden by it. Don’t be afraid to talk to other partners, though, because they understand 100% how demanding this job can be, and will 100% give you their full support. I hope it works out better for you on your next shift, and don’t be afraid to be open and honest!

I am astounded that you were able to keep them at 10 minutes while solo driving and doing warming, thats actually expressive, especially considering that you are brand new.

Also you should have NEVER been put in that situation, I only put my more seasoned partners in that sort of position when the store is dead slow, such as late in the evening. You were put in a horrid situation and it sounds like instead of crumbling, you did your best. I would definitely say something to someone, but also know that you did the best you could!

I would have absolutely cried if I were you, and I’m a well seasoned barista. You definitely shouldn’t have been put there and you did the very best that you could have done. The fact that it’s your fourth day and you handled all that is incredible to me (I’m a trainer). You won’t get fired and you didn’t do anything wrong. :)

the first time i was put on drive thru by myself i got so stressed out that my shift made me go sit down in the back. and that was when it WASNT a peak or rush. doing solo drive takes forever to get the hang of, this is not on you at all. putting you on solo drive your first week was not a cool decision on your shift lead’s part. I’m so sorry you had to endure that.

I am so sorry that the people suck! I am a customer and hate people that have no patience or respect for a fellow human. Sorry your day was awful! :(
