Back in '16 and before that, my SM was great. He'd be upfront often and help us out all the time. Having him on the floor was great. He was like 2 people. This was during the time that SMs were promoted from within. They were people who actually deserved the spot. Usually at least.

Then he tells me hes moving. He'll likely be replaced with someone who has no relevant experience. Yup, a lady replaces him. She tells us she only has retail experience.

I decide to give her a chance. When my SM told me about this, I had picked up a second job just incase.

Near every shift was a shitshow. We ran out of things constantly. Food, milks, and even fucking toilet paper. Often when she scheduled herself, I dont think she really understood the difference between scheduling as admin and barista on the floor.

Now in 2020. Reapplying. SM says she has no prior experience (red flag) but its also a low volume cafe store. But she said we're going to a drive thru later. When we were at the cafe, none of my shifts were stressful. But then we went to the drive through.

My SMs TRUE nature has come out. She apparently thinks its normal to just like, yell at people. Over really small things. Petty BS. Its interesting observing her behavior sometimes. She tries to micromanage everyone, when she isnt even the shift on. And half the time shes micromanaging, the person isnt doing anything wrong. Shes assuming they're doing something wrong. And she yells at them, before she even knows what the fuck is going on. Work wise, shes one of the least efficient. People also really fucking hate talking to her at the window. Which I find hilarious, because she bitches so much about customer connection score.

Most of my shifts have been terrible. Me and my SSV have often been the only self sufficient people on the floor who dont need constant direction. The other 3 people are still learning. My SM never properly scheduled training. Their training was just throwing them in a deep lake and telling them to swim.

During one of these shifts, my SM and DM were having a meeting in the lobby. My SSV felt even more pressure to make sure everything runs smoothly with them sitting there. They told him hes creating a negative work environment with all his stressing out. But this shift, everyone else had been here for less than 2 weeks. Worked less than 5-6 shifts each. Meanwhile, we're going through rush, with cars constantly pulling in.

Well, my 2 weeks are in. I genuinely feel bad for my SSVs. My SM keeps hiring minors in the masses. No offense to any minors on here. But not many of them are able to work more than 3 times a week, and only 4-5 hour shifts. This ends up with their progress being a bit slow.

Oh and, if anyones wondering, they dont really give any raises. Ive heard you can ask for one, and you might get it. But its more complicated. There are many other companies out there who give yearly raises based on individual assessment. You dont have to ask for this, by the way. Starbucks only gives company wide raises to everyone, and its only so they keep their space from minimum wage. In 2016, I was making $9. My first SM excitedly showed me I got a $0.13 raise, after being there for nearly a year. Now in 2020, they pay us $9.50 in my state. Meanwhile, there are companies who have gone from $9 to $12-15 during these years.

There are no raises at SB. Only 10-cent or 25-cent ones in Jan and I guarantee those are frozen for 2021z
