Advice for sequencing refreshers? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by temporarynothings
so, i’ve been working at sbux for about 2-3 months now and while i have the hot/iced/blended drinks sequence (mochas, lattes, frappuccinos etc) pretty much down i’m still struggling with refreshers and iced teas (basically anything that’s shaken). like, i can easily sequence a variety of lattes and mochas, but as soon as a refresher is ordered it’s like i can only work on one drink at a time. my shift leads get really frustrated but i just feel like it’s difficult to make an espresso drink (especially a macchiato!!) AND make a refresher, since if i prepare the shaker with all the ingredients and walk away (and obviously come back to it) everyone complains? but also if i stay and finish it someone complains so i would just like some tips so i can practice.

(also totally unrelated i made a flat white today and i’m still trying to get the pour right but i made a heart in the foam by accident!! it was really cute so i didn’t feel bad about messing it up this time haha)

refreshers and teas are meant to be started and finished one at a time.
hence the shaking ... supposed to have bubbles that die if not thrown into the cup and handed out.
They are so fast that there is no benefit to sequencing.

This is the standard.

Start your espresso drink, then do the shaker while it’s steaming and/or pulling. Pour shaker into the cup. Finish your espresso drink. Lid both.
You’ll have to be quick. But regardless refreshers are hard to sequence in.

Put it on cold bar and walk away, and assume someone else will see and make it for you.****

***not the real way to do this, but the preferred method most of my partners seem to adopt, lol.

The other advise was solid. They're hard to sequence, even if you get sick in a cold bar run, but working fast and practice helps!!!
