I am done working nights (self.starbucksbaristas)

So at my store when you’re on the night crew you have to: either do floors, or preclose. Get scheduled to do clean play until 11:30pm. Have to do dishes. Have to clean things. Have to prep things

When you’re on mornings at my store: stand in one position all day. Make drinks. Leave on time

Morning crew is not expected to do literally anything but be a barista and night crew is expected to be a barista and a janitor. I am done. I can’t wait to go into my shift and just make drinks and then leave.

EDIT: sorry I forgot the best part.... we are paid the same to do more! :)

After yesterday, I feel this on a personal level. We have different label routing depending on if we're in peak or not (read: multiple bar baristas or solo bar), and yesterday we had 2-3 people on bar for happy hour and used the peak setting. It was amazing to just stand there and only do hot bar, my times were much faster because I wasn't trying to sequence frap-espresso-frap-refresher, and it was sooo much easier mentally as well. I'm not a morning person in the least, but I would try to adjust if given the chance.........

It’s interesting how things differ from store to store.

I’m an opener. At my store we make all the backup pumps for the day, do the floors behind the counters and the mats (we don’t deck scrub them usually though), clean the drains and bathrooms. Unless we got totally killed during peak, we also do all the bars and surrounding area and syrup tower. We don’t usually get to cold bar though. We’re not the highest volume store but we run 60-75 per half hour transactions for a good solid 2 1/2 hours during peak.

This block scheduling has ruined a lot

and then they complain about not having enough stuff done. but, as a shift, i gotta do that shit, and the counts, pulls and stuff and morning crew goes home, chillin all day. if shit isnt spread out equally, im might lose my mind.

Literally there would be times where morning got behind because I swear they just messed around after peak, or would hang out just chatting/doing homework and we always got slammed during mids to the point they would have done no preps and no dishes and then as a closing shift I would get in trouble when the store wasn’t perfect and clean and morning had to make preps... definitely a factor why I quit. I feel ya.

I spent years on 2 person closes, and now that I am the M-F open SSV I have so much love for my mid and day parts. We share our tasks and try to communicate our needs to one another.

Hello, I feel your pain, I was a closer for 5 years, in three different stores. I have seen it all.... I am now a store manager and work mostly mornings. If you are getting frustrated with closing I encourage you to find time in your schedule to work a few morning/peak shifts. I can tell you for my store I have a huge passion for supporting all day parts because I was once a core closer. With that said almost all stores are way busier in the mornings thus the SMs must schedule more coverage to support growth of the business. The basic rule of thumb is 60% or more of our business happens during peak (the busiest two hours of the day). The focus from our company is to grow peak for obvious reasons. Most times that gives only enough labor to run 3 part closes. When I was a closer we ran two part closes and got it done. So in short I hear your cry and I know you put in a lot of work closing the store but keep in mind it is a team effort and a good close sets up a good open and the same for open to mid to close. Best of luck to you and your time with the Bucks!

Basically why I had to leave. I was a closing shift and tired of getting chewed out for a speck of non existent dust when we were left all of morning crew’s duties. Our openers weren’t even busy. Just lazy. Because of our location, we were actually busier in the afternoon/evening but they were still scheduling for busy mornings and slow afternoon/evening. :(

I feel your pain I hate afternoon or evening shifts, but what is especially frustrating is my fellow morning people who shit on the closers if they find anything out of place or just in general because our closers are just demographically different than openers (younger mostly). They have a much bigger job and have to deal with more frustrating situations than mornings.

I felt this. It took me MONTHS of writing in the book asking to set up the closing crew for success and it still barely happens. Until one day I worked in the morning and explained to all the baristas that it's just as important to have all of these things done for the afternoon cause we have way less people and deal with the same amount of customers. Not to mention customers in the afternoon KNOW they can waste your time and try to scan you out of a free drink cause some "other store" made their drink wrong.
