This makes me anxious.
ecaterina1204 [OP] 8 points 2y ago
Haha why?
spill-that-tea-sis 58 points 2y ago
They're so...... full

I just have such a vivid image in my head of someone bumping one and they go down like dominos
Imnewtoit 44 points 2y ago
We had a curtis at my last store. I miss him so much.
blkjoey 16 points 2y ago
what do you have instead? just pitchers?
Imnewtoit 12 points 2y ago
Yes. I hate them
getwreckeddd 4 points 2y ago
we use ours for lemonade now :( & have the ice coffee in a back up cube then a pitcher :/
apetroaieadam 29 points 2y ago
What’s the difference between iced coffee and cold brew? We don’t have it where I’m from!
AbnormalDuck 69 points 2y ago
Iced coffee is brewed hot then iced down to cool it. It’s brewed extra strong so the melted ice doesn’t water it down too much.

Cold brew replaces heat with time. It’s brewed over night for 20 hours at room temperature. It’s just a different method that produces a somewhat different experience.

This! I *HIGHLY* recommend cold brew. I get it every day at work and brew 1/2 gallon a day at home.

Cold brew has the added benefit of more caffeine from a longer brew time and significantly less acidity.

Heat in the brewing process draws the acidity out of the beans, so cold brew is less acidic than any coffee brewed with hot water.

Personally, any heat brewed coffee will give me a stomach ache. With cold brew, I get to avoid that! Some people even enjoy heating up the cold brew to enjoy a hot cup of coffee with the added benefits cold brew provides. Definitely check it out. Also, Nitro Cold Brew is amazing!
SupposedSiren89 19 points 2y ago
I learned more about cold brew from this small comment than I did the year I worked at Starbucks 😂
MonstrousGiggling 9 points 2y ago
Oooh this is good to know about the acidity. I'm getting "old" and heartburn is becoming an issue from acidity.
aimsthename88 1 points 2y ago
Cold brew is definitely the way to go then! It’s good hot too. Some people steam it, some microwave it, and some make a cold brew concentrate and add boiling water to the concentrate to heat it up.
asst2therglmgr 18 points 2y ago
If you ever get an opportunity to try nitro, jump on that immediately. Nitro will change your life.
nothereforit97 6 points 2y ago
I love the nitro but for some reason it messes with my stomach so I’ve had to stop drinking it
asst2therglmgr 4 points 2y ago
Yeah I had to go back to hot coffee because it’s the only decaf I could get other than espresso. I kept having panic attacks. I’m on meds for anxiety so having that much caffeine was kind of counterproductive.
MonstrousGiggling 3 points 2y ago
Same! Regular cold brew is fine but whenever i do nitro I feel kind of off idk how to describe it.
ih8yogurt 2 points 2y ago
SAMEEEE!!!
apetroaieadam 6 points 2y ago
I’ve tried Nitro during my attachment pre-COVID. I don’t drink cold brew but it was AMAZING
G37_is_numberletter 12 points 2y ago
I’m confused, isn’t iced coffee normally in pitchers? What container is that?
0x52and1x52 18 points 2y ago
It’s a Curtis we use them for iced coffee where I work. Not sure why the cold brew is also in a Curtis though lol.
SchemingPancake 26 points 2y ago
I’m not sure about the cold brew either, but one summer, my SM decided we needed one for iced coffee and green and black teas. We called them Curtis, Gurtis, and Burtis 🤣
MonstrousGiggling 13 points 2y ago
LOL! We have one for Strawberry Acai that we call Stanley. So funny when we have guest stars and new partners and we are like fill Curtis and Stanley and they're just like....wuuuuuuut???
ih8yogurt 1 points 2y ago
It would make so much sense for our store to use a Curtis for sar! We go through it so fast that In a four hour closing shift we use at LEAST six cartons (so from 6pm-10pm off off peak)
MaxHard420 15 points 2y ago
Higher volume stores use them because it’s way more efficient than using 20 pitchers to prep for the day. they must not have a nitro tap for their cold brew which is why they have two.
ecaterina1204 [OP] 3 points 2y ago
We have the nitro tap as well but we sell a lot of cold brew.
G37_is_numberletter 0 points 2y ago
Huh. Okay. I work at a high volume store, but we don't really sell through more than 3 pitchers of iced coffee a day. We have nitro so that's probably a big reason.
MaxHard420 4 points 2y ago
We do too but we still sell lots of regular iced coffee for some reason.
Pledsss 7 points 2y ago
I work at a high volume store and yes it’s more efficient than pitchers. The cold brew is uncut and we do have a nitro tap, but we only use it for nitro since cold brew is so popular or else we’d have to be making kegs every hour. As a side note, my store has to make 4 toddies a day to keep up with cold brew demand 😩
Simplyroro 4 points 2y ago
We make 5 toddys daily and have 7 kegs, what we have issues with is SWEET CREAM... AND VSC cold foam 😑😑😑 3 cubes of sweet cream made every morning and we are out by the 2pm rush.
ih8yogurt 3 points 2y ago
It’s because of tiktok drinks
Simplyroro 3 points 2y ago
I wanna smack the shit out of bored baristas posting stupid videos.
noeyoureatowel 1 points 2y ago
Sweet cream toddy!

ETA: recipe for 18L: 9L of heavy cream, 3.15L of vanilla, and 5.4L of 2%. If your store also goes through a lot of whipped cream I don’t recommend doing this until the order can be adjusted to support the additional consumption!
ih8yogurt 1 points 2y ago
Us too! At least four!
PalominoCreste 3 points 2y ago
Second this, never seen these before

jellibees 8 points 2y ago
Wait why do you have your cold brew in a Curtis? We just use ours for iced coffee
kobo15 9 points 2y ago
My store did this before we had nitro taps
jellibees 6 points 2y ago
Ohhhh that makes sense, before our taps we just kept it in cubes 🤷🏻‍♀️
ecaterina1204 [OP] 3 points 2y ago
We just sell a lot of cold brew
closingshiftbarista 7 points 2y ago
Apparently this is an unpopular opinion, but these do not make me anxious, this makes me happy.

My store goes through roughly 3 Curtis-fulls of iced coffee per day (that's 9 batches, for those who don't have a Curtis), so I love seeing it full ☺
liz-can-too 7 points 2y ago
Omg having seen what can happen to a not nearly as full hot mocha sauce while IN ITS LITTLE DIVET in the counter, this - this makes me VERY afraid.
TherudestLiz 2 points 2y ago
Haha that’s how full I get it every morning I open :)
barista6467 2 points 2y ago
I present to you the perfect customer support guys
ecaterina1204 [OP] 2 points 2y ago
I love customer support!

crzyshiba 2 points 2y ago
Oh you need that iced coffee refilled ,, you got it and don’t ask me again lol
its_Lydia_ 2 points 2y ago
Same 😂 we love getting it as full as possible just for fun, but it’s also so busy at my store that we usually brew pretty often
MommaX2Barista 1 points 2y ago
So newbie green bean... cold brew and Nitro have more caffeine than an espresso drink? Don’t laugh... still leaning. Also how does blonde espresso rank?
sweetangel622 1 points 2y ago
What are those containers?
