You have to wear the apron. That’s why we all wear it. Not because we want to.

You have to wear your apron over your jacket. I’m fairly certain wearing an apron is a food safety requirement.

I think it’s a brand thing, not food safety. I love taking it off when I’m cs. But wearing it is part of the job.

It’s been explained to me that it’s because if we were to spill something hot on ourselves, we can remove the apron and not get burns. If you’re just wearing a tshirt and pants and you spill something on yourself, your clothes are just going to stick to you and continue to burn you. If it was a branding issue, then anything Starbucks brand would be okay.

And you’re allowed to take off your apron when you’re doing dishes or taking out trash, but any other time you’re on the floor, you should be wearing your apron.

McDonald’s employees don’t wear an apron and they deal with hot grease. And as a barista if I needed extra protection it would be for my hands not front. I think the apron is about branding and promoting the craft image.

I don’t know why what other companies allow effects our company’s standards and practices? I didn’t say that it was a state or county mandated food safety requirement. I’ve been to plenty of restaurants where my wait staff were wearing nail polish and / or acrylic nails. That doesn’t mean that not allowing us to wear nail polish or acrylic nails is about branding.

Eh, I think it might still be a branding thing because the green apron is part of the brand symbol. it's a stronger mental reminder that you're in Starbucks than just seeing somebody wearing an item with a small siren logo.

It's food safety. A red octagon is always gonna make you think stop sign. A green apron whose function is safety is likely going to lend itself to brand recognition, but its job is not promoting the brand
