273**** putting in my two weeks tomorrow, any advice? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by sgkcarol
I think I've gotten to my breaking point. I work mid and closing shifts at a high volume drive thru store and I've just been absolutely dreading going into work lately. We have a new manager that nobody really likes, we're constantly understaffed and running out of things, and I've been nearly scheduled for as many hours as the SM while I'm a full time college student and running the esports team at my school. Barring for 10+ hours every weekend (they almost always put me on because I'm one of the faster barista) leaves me exhausted and in pain and I've had to call out multiple times because of stress migraines, which only makes my manager act more passive-aggressive towards me. It also seems like all of our customers are in a bad mood lately and dealing with them has become a drain on my mental. I used to love my job before covid but not I feel dread every time I think of it.
I'm also afraid of losing my benefits and leaving my coworkers behind. I know it's not a healthy environment for me but I love the people I work with and would feel terrible leaving them in an even worse place. I'm meeting with my SM tomorrow and I was going to put in my two weeks then, how do I keep myself from backing out?

If it's toxic, you know what you gotta do. 👍

If you want my complete honest advice. Don't even give 2 weeks

Before you quit, because you say you care about your benefits, have you considered trying to limit and / or change your availability? If you can afford to cut your hours or change them, you may be able to force your managers hand into letting you transfer. For instance if you’re a 35 hour partner but you change to 25, if your manager says, no I can’t support this availability, then you’d have the right to go look for a store that could accept that availability.

If that’s not an option, then just remember in a few weeks, your store manager will be like, “Who? u/sgkcarol? Oh, I heard they died.”

Also a 273**** here, and I feel the same about how it used to be nice before COVID but now it's just stressful. Maybe see if you can transfer to a different store rather than just quitting, so you won't have to give up your benefits. If you don't like it there you can always quit, but maybe a different store will be a nice change of pace.
