I feel sick all the time. (self.starbucksbaristas)

I'm a month in. I'm catching on pretty okay. I'm still super slow, but I feel I've got a grasp on the basic recipes. I'm not overwhelmed by that.

Like all of us, I'm overwhelmed with covid. I really believed that Starbucks was taking care of their partners like they said they would. Very quickly I saw that is not the case.

I have a slightly compromised immune system and chronic illnesses. Stores near me have had to close due to cases so all of their customers are coming to us and all I keep thinking is "which of you gave it to them?"

My anxiety has me feeling nauseous everyday and at the end of my shift, I collapse into a ball of pain. I'm looking for other jobs and I'm desperately trying to avoid leaving this one before I find another. I don't think this job is worth my health. I can't sleep, I'm not eating or drinking enough water.

I contemplate calling off for most of my shifts. We're getting some more green beans at my store so I'm wondering if I should just take advantage of the extra hands and put my two weeks in now. Thanks for listening to this grande rant!

OP get out.

This isn’t the time for you to be exposed to thousands of customers.
I hope you start feeling better.

Sweetheart I’m so very sorry. This has got to be one of the most insane times to try and join starbucks. Our job is already insanely high intensity, tossing a worldwide pandemic on top of it is just so insanely unfair and scary.

Have you considering talking to your manager about how your feeling? They could potentially make it so you don’t work till/drive thru register, to lower your contact with customers given your health issues.

Sending love and hugs, and if you end up leaving please know we all wish you the best.

Our store manager is returning from maternity leave this week so I'll definitely mention it to her. We've had two different managers in the month I've been here so I'm not sure if everything that I shared when hired was communicated to the new temp manager. Thank you so much for your love and support!

In my store they take temperature before every shift ,have hand sanitizer, require masks and handoff in the drive through is contactless as well. I was worried but now I’m not. Does your store not do these things? It is required from what I can tel. Good luck

My store doesn't take temperature at all. Just asks for symptoms (they stopped doing that even). But I work in a grocery store.

Ohhh that may be why. I hope you’ll have the courage to speak up to your supervisor about a more thorough handling of this. If they don’t listen I’d go to the district manager above them and address the issue. Good luck!

It didn't really occur to me that they stopped until I wrote that. I think I'll bring it up with my union. Thanks!

We do take temps and we're supposed to do the COVID coach at the start of each shift, but we do not have a contactless drive thru. I do wear gloves sibling as we have them and I've started bringing my own hand sanitizer because our manager never seems to order enough.

As much as I need the hours I had to cut back my hours because it was taking a toll on my mental and physical health which affected my grades due to stress. The only reason I said something was also because we're getting some more green beans so I suggest putting your two weeks in since things won't get any better anytime soon. Best of luck!

Please love, please take care of yourself before you take care of a corporate entity, your health is endlessly more important than the survival of a store that will never value you for the person you are. Work should not make you collapse in pain, work should not bring terror of catching a deadly disease, work should not hurt and you do not EVER have to accept that

Nothing is more important than one’s mental and physical health<3
