Has anyone quit without having something else lined up? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by pandafanda25
Hello. It me again. I posted yesterday about feeling sick all the time. I'm almost definitely going to quit because I'm scared shitless about red cup day. But that's now only 3 weeks away. I've been applying to jobs like crazy, but I haven't found anything solid yet. Has anyone else found themselves in this situation? Did you survive? Is it worth it?

You’re not alone! I’m having the exact same feelings right now. I’m currently in the interview process for a couple of other jobs, but I feel like I’ve already checked out of this one. If I don’t land one of these, I might just quit anyway because my stress levels are so high rn.

I'm currently working at a severely understaffed store.

Take it from me, they will survive, and would likely want you to focus on your health rather than work. Do what makes you feel safe.

What's red cup day? *I'm a green bean*

Red cup day is when the holiday menu launches. Each store gets a stock of reusable red cups and for every seasonal drink purchased, the customer gets a free red cup until we run out. Now it’s not happening this year because Covid, but normally the red cup gets you a $0.50 discount on any holiday beverage after 2pm for the entire season so they’re a super coveted item. It’s always an absolutely insane day. Probably the busiest day of the year at my location, aside from thanksgiving

I just parted ways with Starbucks because I was promised a month of work in my field of choice. It’s not permanent but it’s an opportunity nonetheless. I would say if you have a clear goal outside of Starbucks then go for it. If you have no idea & need time then hold on while you figure it out. Good luck!

have a back up like instacart, doordash, uber or uber eats! i make more money door dashing full time than i did as a barista full time. once you actívate the account you can pretty much do it whenever you want, if you find a job and don’t doordash for 3 months and decide you don’t like it doordash will still be there!

I quit with nothing else lined up so I could focus on applying and interviewing bc that’s a full time job on its own. But I also had enough saved up and a partner who could help support me while I searched for work. Luckily I was still able to pay my part of the rent and I started a new job 2 months after leaving Starbucks.

My store is exactlyyyy like that. High school like environment, the girls are extremely rude, make you feel super judged and like everything you do is wrong. They even treat the new people like shit like they’re supposed to know everything when they just started and get annoyed when they ask a simple question they make you feel like you’re so annoying for doing so. We all went through and to this day this store is just bad vibes. I’m trying to transfer after being here for a year. Thought things would get better but it’s just getting worse.

I had an interview today and a fellow supervisor put in her notice with no backup plan, she just can't take working pretty much as an AM but not getting paid for it, not even getting enough as baristas and supervisors already (she just moved her and her kids back in with her parents). Another supervisor just quit to move for trade school. Aaaaand 3 other partners just quit with no backup plan. Its just that bad..

I am a contractor for my full time job and I feel like I have to keep this job in case my contract loses its budget and I'm out of work; but I'm so exhausted mentally and physically from working 7 days a week for over a year that I desperately want to quit with the expectation that I'll be able to go back if my contract falls through.

If there's a target near you, apply for them. Most locations are hiring a ton of seasonal employees right now, so even if it's not long term that would at least give you more time to find something else.

So, I actually applied to my local Target yesterday and I literally just got an email for a video interview! It is just seasonal, but you're right, at least it will buy me more time. Still gonna have to deal with Karens, but at least I won't keep burning myself!

You could just request off for red cup day
