I tested positive two weeks ago, and my location never closed and additionally my sm was pushing for me to return even after i told him i still had symptoms and was still contagious.
Edit: He was demoted and transferred to a different location today.
Chonlger50 points2y ago
That motherfucker should get jail time.
elysemosunset17 points2y ago
Dude. That really isnt right. I had a scare and came in contact with someone who did have it and I had to go thru hoops trying to get two test within a short span of time and I felt so rushed to come back I wanted to be safe so they made me isolate but getting the test wasn't rapid easy like when they first came out. They didn't care they just wanted me to come back asap like hello a pandemic is happening???? Ugh. Wish u luck.
boxinghamster16144 points2y ago
I will say my SM has been in my store, open to close, on the floor for the past 2 weeks straight, and my DM is off right now because he had a heart attack. Leadership isn't terrible everywhere. The rest I agree with.
MatchingColors39 points2y ago
I would also like to echo this by saying my SM has been working, haven’t seen our DM in a while but management isn’t horrible where I am.
bompwa29 points2y ago
My SM has also been working like crazy in our store without a doubt.
finnjiman17 points2y ago
Mine too! She’s da bomb and the only reason I’m still with the company (or even considered coming back after being laid off from my other job). She sticks up for us and for what’s right and I really appreciate her
misscanwenot3 points2y ago
I’m honestly so jealous. I gave myself a concussion at work, and my store manager just told me I had to close the store down before going to the hospital.
She also left 15 minutes into happy hour, when we were down a person, and said “looks like you guys will be fine” even though she was scheduled till 7pm.
I’m quitting pretty soon, can’t handle it anymore.
dancing_durian63 points2y ago
I second this! People have been testing positive left and right and stores are not following proper cleaning and sanitizing procedures. Let alone closing and quarantining.
DefinitelyNotALion47 points2y ago
Seconded. My store is super conscientious about hands-free hand-offs and regular lobby sanitizing, and we have a timer set for hand washing. Even so, it's impossible to get everything done. We wind up having to choose between keeping the place clean and keeping it operational.
At peak you can bet we're not all washing our hands every 30 minutes. There's just no way to drop everything and have everyone on the floor run to the single hand washing sink way over in the corner to wash their hands. We just do our absolute best to separate behind the counter from in front of the counter and to wash our hands if we transition between those two things.
RajangRath22 points2y ago
Thirded. We’re straight up being told that come holiday/red cup season, we just won’t be able to get some cleaning tasks done, full stop. We are so understaffed that I barely have time to blow my nose, much less wash my hands
krenner1413 points2y ago
Fourthded. Our manager keeps going on week-long vacations so she doesn’t have to face our understaffed, overworked store. Conditions are worsening as people quit. It’s getting harder to enjoy being a barista.
NOTcreative-5 points2y ago
Call PRSC.
junglejims432247 points2y ago
I thought it was just my district that every SM goes on vacation one after the other 💀
samechange55 points2y ago
SMS have to use their vacation or lose it. It doesn’t roll over like for baristas. Since most stores were closed for so long during the Covid shutdown, a lot of vacations had to be squeezed into the last couple months of the fiscal year. Even with that, most SMS didn’t get to use all their vacation time. I know leadership has been working way more than “40 hours a week” where I am. It’s an unprecedented situation we are dealing with. I think everyone is just trying to do their best.
Oliveforthis18 points2y ago
Lol we havent had a store manager for almost a month. We've just been getting passed around and babysat by 3 other store's managers
drinkliquidclocks17 points2y ago
Have you worked at many stores? This seems like a wild generalization, I don't think the corporation is barely holding on. Only the baristas...
xasera16 points2y ago
Only the 8 stores in my district, and 2 in a nearby neighboring district. Ill admit it's a small sample size, but itsny daily experience.
xasera11 points2y ago
*stores* meaning the people within, not the entity at a corporate level.
misscanwenot2 points2y ago
I’ve worked at 8 stores in four different districts. I know of at least four stores that stayed open with a covid case, and didn’t allow baristas to quarantine who should’ve been.
Puzzleheaded-Key-8790 points2y ago
having fun licking the corporate boot? way to turn the blame onto the baristas for being stressed during a pandemic. sales for corporate are flourishing right now, but at the total expense of their work force's mental and physical wellbeing.
drinkliquidclocks1 points2y ago
Lol okay... I'm a barista, I'm on their side. I still think the post was silly. Yes being a barista sucks, just like every other minimum wage job. These issues are much bigger than just starbucks. Yes we deserve better.
Arianasagapo14 points2y ago
I HAD SYMPTOMS AND CALLED MY BOSS THE DAY BEFORE MY SHIFT TO FIND COVERAGE SO I CAN GO GET A COVID TEST. HE TOLD ME I NEEDED TO FIND MY OWN COVERAGE. HE TOLD ME TO ASK 3 PEOPLE, WHO ALL SAID NO. I STILL HAD TO GO IN TO WORK THE NEXT DAY. I COULD HAVE INFECTED SO MANY PEOPLE. STARBUCKS DOES NOT GIVE A SINGLE FUCK.
FragrantWin94 points2y ago
Look at partner resources- you don’t have to find your own coverage anymore
Arianasagapo2 points2y ago
I know this now.. it’s too late anyway, this was a whole month ago. I wish I knew then
[deleted] [OP]1 points2y ago
Where do I find this in partner resources?
FragrantWin91 points2y ago
Honestly I’m not sure anymore, I haven’t been working for a corporate Starbucks for a few months. I forgot where I found it, I’m sure someone on reddit will have the answer if you make a post though. Sorry for the lead with no info. I know it is true though, I have seen it with my own eyes 👀
GoldTurds-12 points2y ago
Sm and DM vacations don't roll over into the next year, so they HAVE to take them or they lose out on their time off and vacation pay.
If higher higher ups would change it so that his years vacation can be used over the next 3 years, SM and DM would be not taking them right now.
iWantToBeARealBoy4 points2y ago
Dude it isn’t the end of the world for them to not use some of their vacation time. This situation is a clusterfuck and being leadership means you have to make some sacrifices during shit like this. I‘m not saying they shouldn’t take a vacation, I myself took one at the end of August, but fucking hell they shouldn’t be taking one week per every 4-6 weeks off right now.
BeardiesRule1122 points2y ago
Yeah lemme get a vacation from fucking sitting at home from March until oct 2021.
iWantToBeARealBoy1 points2y ago
fr, they’re constantly „doing admin at home“
mtdewberrymore12 points2y ago
WOOOOOOOW if this isn’t my store/district. We’ve had positive covid tests, never closed. We didn’t even sanitize or anything because it was a couple days after they had last worked. People working found out in the middle of their shifts that they had been exposed but were told they had to stay and finish their shifts before isolating. Apparently our whole district is like this
Saradigm9 points2y ago
Someone pointed out we are about to go into holiday season like this. Like nope, I’m out. I’m looking for another job. I deserve better.
taylorsound259 points2y ago
One of my partners just tested positive for covid and they closed today but are opening tomorrow. I’m pretty sure everyone has come in contact with this person.
ahhpoo9 points2y ago
I know the management level was reaching the time of year where their vacation time was gonna go away if they don’t use it. It’s unfortunate timing but it means they weren’t using it during the other 7 months of the pandemic, at least.
The rest still sucks tho
hipbs237 points2y ago
I am running a high volume dt with 2 other partners today... With lunches and breaks we have been running a 2 person floor most of the day. It is taking everything in me not to walk out or break down and cry.
julieCivil2 points2y ago
Jesus. That's terrible
maemac6 points2y ago
Lol yes after trying to suppress us talking to each other to stop us from finding out who tested positive in my store, I realized it is a partner that I not only work with almost every day, it is also a partner I feel particularly close to. My manager had told me I didn’t have contact with the person. Technically I hadn’t in 72 hours but I had also just been visiting my elderly grandmother. My manager also told us to throw away the paper that gave us talking points to use with customers who ask why we were closed, bc the paper implies we are allowed to disclose we closed bc a partner was covid positive. We are literally being instructed to lie to customers!!!!!!!
gayz0mbie5 points2y ago
Dude ive been having to stay extra shifts so my store stays afloat. Our bathrooms are gross af and the washing hand timer is a joke at this point
okilanlosan5 points2y ago
My SM is seven months pregnant and worked a rush for four hours just this morning. Corporate won’t let her go on leave until the very last moment and I’m so mad. She’s trying so hard and I’m not sure how to help aside from training more green beans and taking up more shifts.
plushiequeenaspen3 points2y ago
This makes me so mad. SMs that care and put in maximum effort get treated like shit, while SMs like mine can just not even show up for their shifts with no consequences. Sounds like you're already doing everything you can for your manager, and I hope she recognizes that.
Emroseyyy883 points2y ago
Our SM is currently on maternity leave and due next week. Mind you she didn’t start her maternity leave until about a week and a half ago. Before her leave started she was coming in on days off, staying late, coming in early etc. she would jump on bar or reg or even CS to the best of her ability while being VERY pregnant and with a heart condition. She’s checked in with me daily since she left asking how I’m handling things and if she can find a way to help me. My car got stolen from in front of my house before my shift, my wallet etc was stolen the week before that and I’ve been dealing with deaths in my family. Literally back to back to back. I’ve told her a few times that I’m feeling extremely helpless and like life is just beating me down plus being verbally attacked multiple times by unruly customers. Between her and our interim SM I’ve been getting the support I need and our DM was notified of what’s been going on so I’ll be talking to her this coming week (she drops into our store specifically upwards of 3 times a week to evaluate a million discrepancies we have with partners not doing their job or just skipping shifts and heading to the beach). I know a lot of us aren’t happy and things are going to hell, but knowing there are SM’s DM’s etc that are doing their best gives me hope that there’s going to be some relief coming soon.
ZCJMLCJ82 points2y ago
Goddamn. Hoping shit gets better
Emroseyyy881 points2y ago
It’s starting to. My partners at my store have all been helping me out in any way possible so it’s helped relieve some stress.
Swimming_Swan4 points2y ago
I have 1 week left as a SSV at my store. Found an easier job that pays more while I finish school. F*** bux.
ramentara1 points2y ago
What’s the job out of curiosity? I would really love something easier while I’m in school
Swimming_Swan1 points2y ago
It’s for backcountry.com actually! I’m a warehouse associate. My job is SIMPLE. It’s consistent, and I don’t know if ALL warehouses are like this, but I hear that most work around school schedules. This pays way more. And I can have 1 earbud in while I work, so I can listen to podcasts if I want or music etc.
LinkifyBot1 points2y ago
**I found links in your comment that were not hyperlinked:**
I really do feel this cause they care about money. My location started doing curbside it's like now customers can feel more entitled yay!
elpayasoeso113 points2y ago
Sounds like every retail store :) (Worker at Best Buy, shit is basically the same)
nik00laid2 points2y ago
My SM is always on vacation its so dam annoying
Js_On_My_Yeet2 points2y ago
Legit my partners and I are about to go protest. We don't get paid enough yet we're "essential", we deal with indecent people, and partners are getting a positive testing for Covid-19. I'm 100% with you on corporate not caring about their employees.
Better-Cow2 points2y ago
Dang I thought it was just my SM that is on vacation every other week..
Gingersnap53222 points2y ago
I always appreciate how they talked about losing money yet they are one of the most profitable companies and is 227 on the Fortune 500 list and can make $1000 in just one day of peak.
godzillerie1 points2y ago
Okay we just found out our store made only 1/2 a days intake less of money than we did this year compared to last.. despite being closed for several weeks and having shortened hours most of the year we almost made EXACTLY the same amount of money.. but they still decide to cut the CRAP out of labor and throw us all to the wolves
hailvy2 points2y ago
My SM is trying their hardest but our DM is.... not great about this stuff
indicktator1 points2y ago
I told my SM day before yesterday that my live-in boyfriends work had a positive case, and that I needed to get tested and she wanted me to come in the next day. I didn't show up the next day because this isn't the first time she's done this to an employee and as an immune compromised person I don't feel safe coming in. I'm going back next Tuesday.
thekiller24771 points2y ago
They only care about cash flow in the business it’s a shame but it’s true. My SM was thinking of quitting cuz of her pay cut but I haven’t anything about it since. Pretty much she said screw yall im out if I don’t get a raise. Smh and they pretty much opened most of the seats in the store. And people are barely social distancing
Southern-Milk1 points2y ago
I'm sorry to hear. My district and surrounding have had waves of store closures. It's making buisness crazy cause customers just keep going to the next closest store and we cant seem to keep up with who's open or who's closed. We also have many stores with short hours or still just DT due to staffing. I am an SM and worked almost 50-60hr a week. I broke down I needed time off or I wasnt giving my partners the best me. Plus me being out gave them more hours to work. I still took calls and had to take on 2 other stores while people were out. I wish every district had strong leadership like ours. My DM and RD really seem to care and try and keep us safe.
julieCivil1 points2y ago
I had a fever, cough, congestion and felt like I had the flu but nobody would cover my shift so I keep going to work, knowing I am spreading something horrible and also feeling like absolute ass but as long as Starbucks stays open, who cares, right?
trymesquad1 points2y ago
Yup. I had to go on short term disability because my boss accused me of faking ill and now I’m under my drs microscope. She said throwing up and diarrhea constantly wasn’t a Covid symptom. It is and my doctor had me tested before doing a full work up
scoot_the_poet1 points2y ago
I work in a mall. Holliday is coming. Our numbers are getting higher and customers aren’t being responsible. I honestly don’t know if I can take this.
c_azzimiei1 points2y ago
Our SM isn’t the only one constantly on vacation??
ImSean21211 points2y ago
Not at my store. Sorry to hear about that. If we're showing symptoms we have to self isolated for 14 days. Thankfully I've been lucky enough to have a store manager that cares a ton about us.
ExtraterrestrialPoe1 points2y ago
This makes me so sad. I’m a SM and had to close my store and ask all my partners to self isolate this morning. For the next two weeks I’ll be interviewing, hiring, and coordinate training plans from home so I don’t have to keep pushing my partners past their limits. It sounds like you have a DM that won’t let their SMs make the right choices, and the baristas/SSVs have to take the stress on. I’m sorry! It helped me a little to see comments from partners vouching for their SM though, cause this job can be extremely discouraging.
Trumps_left_bawsack1 points2y ago
fuuuck you guys seem to have it so bad over in the states. There was a store in my district which had one partner test positive. Store closed for 3 days to be deep cleaned and all partners who were in contact with the partner are isolating as well. I was covering at that store on saturday since they are (obviously) down a lot of people and during my shift, another partner who was already isolating tested positive. DM closed the store within 30mins of that and all partners are being told not to come into work until they make sure everthing's safe just as a precaution, and we're being paid. This has also meant my store and a few others have had to close as well because they don't have enough partners available to work since they were covering at that store.
The other partner had been isolating since the first partner tested positive and they haven't been in the store since last sunday. They didn't have to close the store, but they did for everyone's safety. The DM even sent out a message to every partner in the district letting them know what was up and to make sure everyone is following the rules so this doesn't happen again.
A_St0ner1 points2y ago
Lol my SM is going on vacation today, and our DM honestly doesn’t know how to make any drinks!

MazzStar1 points2y ago
Happening in Abq as well... even our shifts are going on vacation and/or testing positive and they can’t even be bothered to at least let us know that someone is out for covid.. we have to figure it out through the grape vine
wroq751 points2y ago
The stores where I live are closed sporadically all the time. Enough times that Starbucks is no longer my first destination for coffee. The thought in my mind is that Starbucks can't be the only places hit by COVID... So, how is it that all the other coffee shops are never closed?
paolathepanda1 points2y ago
Damn that's crazy wttf!!! we actually had two stores recently closed down due to a partner(s) testing + for COVID but I'm shocked that there are stores that arent doing that ugh ... I'm sorry yall :/
