Getting names wrong (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by pink_haired_bitch
I always feel bad getting names wrong, but at the same time I have a unique name and I don’t get upset when it’s spelled wrong cause it isn’t a common spelling. I don’t understand why people have to come up to me after their drink has already been made and they’re like “oh you spelled my name wrong btw” like sorry 1) what am I supposed to do about it but 2) how do I spell it right? You could tell me how to spell it right instead of just being rude and leaving.

Also, this little like 8 year old came in with her mom the other day and ordered her frapp (I don’t understand giving your kids coffee but that’s another story) and she gives her name and I ring it up and all is good. They get their drinks and she comes over to me “oh you spelled my name wrong by the way. It’s not ***, it’s ***” And then walks away while her mother gives her the I’m proud of you look. Like are parents really raising these kids to be rude customers? Like you actually encouraged your kid to come up and say all snarky that I misspelled her name by one letter? Idk man just these entitled kids and customers in general. As someone with an uncommon spelling for a name, spell it for me or get over it.

I type what it sounds to me you said... it is often 90 decibels at the register area... bob becomes tod, Shirley can be Beverly, if I don’t know how to spell it I just make something up

I've found that confirming spelling with people while you're ringing it up actually helps with customer connections

Maybe after they tell you their name, spell it out as you type it in, or ask them to spell it for you. Lmk if that helps!

I try and do that, I find that the customers just half listen and then are like “sounds good” and then after they’re like you spelled it wrong. Like I’m sorry Mheagan why did you say it was right then? Lol. But thanks I appreciate it

We have a regular whose name is Couch. And when I asked him how to spell it. He said “like a couch that you sit on” 😳

When people have unique weird complicated names youd never be able to spell first try and the person just says their name and doesnt even bother to spell it so you have to awkwardly ask after the few seconds go by cus you thought you can spell it but you realize you cant and then they give you a look like "how cant you spell "amaryanamara" 🙃 ... or when you confirm their name by repeating it by and they say "yeah" and when it comes to the handoff they claim that I got it wrong lmao fuck off . Like ok Karen idgaf just leave
