Drain the cold brew (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by sadroommate
Me: okay can you drain the cold brews? And then make one more toddy for tomorrow?

Green bean: sure

*10 minutes later*

Me: hey you finished draining those cold brews?

Green bean: yep!

Me: cool! Which fridge did you put them in?

Green bean: fridge? I drained them in the sink.

Me: 👁👄👁

Moral of the story: be very specific when instructing the green beans 🤦🏽‍♀️
Petty_Pentagon606 298 points 2y ago
That’s weird you guys say “drain” cause we just be like can you “pull” the cold brew. So I can see the confusion
scubadoobydoo131 85 points 2y ago
We say drop, I wonder how that would’ve ended up 😂
bellash20 37 points 2y ago
we say decant lollll
ktmcbeta 24 points 2y ago
2nd decanting here. Decanting is the best, I think, too, because you can't really confuse it for any other action LOL
TheReal1Days 20 points 2y ago
We say dispense xp
Micaelah43 35 points 2y ago
Lmao all these comments saying other things. At my store we say "do"
nbbear 28 points 2y ago
We "cube" it at ours.
closingshiftbarista 4 points 2y ago
Same. That or "can you deal with the cold brew???"
_book_queen 5 points 2y ago
Lol we always saw pour.

Saradigm 149 points 2y ago
I can see how that was confusing though. Drain has a very “get rid of it” connotation.
We prefer to harvest our cold brew.
DefinitelyNotALion 93 points 2y ago
Nothing like a freshly-harvested cold brew straight from the fields.
Saradigm 35 points 2y ago
Our cold brew is free range
MonstrousGiggling 21 points 2y ago
Just like the clouds we obtain our cloud powder from!
ktmcbeta 26 points 2y ago
harvest is so cute omggg. we use decant at my store, but we write little messages on the toddy lids like "FREE ME AT 10/29 4:30PM" and I think I am going to write harvest one day and draw little pumpkins if i have free time lol
Saradigm 18 points 2y ago
LiBeRaTe tHe CoLd bReW
ktmcbeta 4 points 2y ago
omggg i want to use this one too. I never have anything other than "SAVE ME" and "FREE ME" liberate sounds hilarious
G37_is_numberletter 109 points 2y ago
Cut the bagels in half for the morning.

We come in and the bagels were cut in half vertically instead of horizontally.
ConfusedByFarts 53 points 2y ago
Cut the bagels in half for the morning? Uhhh what?
coffeesparklez 48 points 2y ago
That's some old school pre-laboulange stuff right there. They used to come in a sleeve (like the grocery store) and we would slice them and tray them up.
G37_is_numberletter 16 points 2y ago
I know, right? Weird shift, weird store.
plushiequeenaspen 14 points 2y ago
My NYC store sold so many bagels during peak that openers would pre slice them and put them in the plastic bins so we could grab and toast
xboxturtle 5 points 2y ago
My store used to do that but they attracted pests. Even in the bin.
eat-reddit-tv 14 points 2y ago
I gasped loudly
Longjumping-Craft-92 45 points 2y ago
as a green bean (recently promoted?) i’m happy to say i haven’t done this.

i do make a HUGE mess whenever draining them though, so as long as 90% gets in I feel accomplished
CriticalSheep 44 points 2y ago
RIP
REDValentina18 38 points 2y ago
One of my shifts (she’s been there for two/three years) has recently been telling the other shifts that she “made” cold brew when they switch off. She leaves us thinking that cold brew is ready for tomorrow. I come downstairs for something since I’m usually on CS and head into the dish room. We keep our toddies there on a low shelf. I turn around and see that the toddies have filters in them filled with grounded cold brew. No water. Just the grounds.

She did not “make” shit. She grounded them and left us to fill them. When we called her out on it, she just said “meh. Not my problem after my shift is up.”

But then she got pissy with me yesterday when she said she made cold brew and I asked her “did you put water in it or did you just grind it?” She is a SHIFT.
starvingchild 17 points 2y ago
Lmao, that’s something I would talk to your manager about... Her response/actions shows that she doesn’t care about her partners or the efficiency of your store. Demonstrates Poor/misleading communication, unwillingness to take responsibility for her floor, and disrespect towards fellow partners.

Edit: your response to her was perfect btw, got me to lol
REDValentina18 11 points 2y ago
My manager is fully aware of her bullshit. The problem is that, including her, we only have three shifts in total and our store is by a train station. Plus, due to covid, it’s hard getting a replacement shift. It’s a whole mess but for now, we’re stuck with her. But he has assured me that as soon as someone else is available, she’s out.
is_it_soy 13 points 2y ago
That’s the same kind of people who say they did some dishes in the morning, but what they meant was that they just put some dishes in the sink. 🤦‍♂️
REDValentina18 6 points 2y ago
SHE DOES THAT TOO

But her favorite thing to do is just let dishes pile up for the next shift to do
eat-reddit-tv 6 points 2y ago
That’s Totally crappy for your team but hilarious for internet strangers
REDValentina18 3 points 2y ago
Understandable
Red_Sweet_Tart 30 points 2y ago
Alright all of the former green beans who have at one point forgot to grind the beans before brewing them raise your hand 🤚
Arevrec 14 points 2y ago
Lmao what!
ktmcbeta 4 points 2y ago
Literally what!?!? lmfaooo

\*jk I still love you green beans <3 <3 \*
spicypotatogurl 8 points 2y ago
✋ meeeee when I was a green bean lmao
cs_phoenix 25 points 2y ago
Lmao yeah I’m not surprised they were confused I’ve never heard someone call it draining. Pull is always a safe bet though
Crashwaves 20 points 2y ago
Hahahaha this is so funny to me, as a green bean, because it makes me think of something I did yesterday. A partner handed me a pitcher of black tea, but it was only 1 liter full. She asked if I could swap out the teas, and instead of asking for clarification, I started putting a venti scoop of ice and filling it with water. She looked over at me filling up the pitcher of tea and she was wearing a mask but I could tell her jaw dropped. She said “what are you doing!!” And I then realized I was just supposed to pour the tea from the pitcher into the pitcher we already had on cold bar. Needless to say I brewed a new pitcher after that
starvingchild 16 points 2y ago
Well now I am confused...because I know you’re supposed to use a new container whenever you switch out an ingredient. What you wrote sounds like you correctly made the tea, then the shift had you do something that’s all sorts of crazy to me.
BeardiesRule112 19 points 2y ago
One more toddy? Lol damn we make 8.
ms833 8 points 2y ago
We make one every week or two....
paperbackedsea 13 points 2y ago
wtf we make like 5 a day???
BeardiesRule112 8 points 2y ago
Yep super high volume store. Our kegs last like an hour
ms833 2 points 2y ago
We never sell any. Maybe a couple a week. It’s not popular at all here.
Charles2252 3 points 2y ago
We are low volume & still make one every other day 🤪
sadroommate [OP] 6 points 2y ago
I- I’m shook 😭
BeardiesRule112 16 points 2y ago
Pumpkin cream cold brews faaaa dayyyysss
_book_queen 2 points 2y ago
We broke 3 or 4 a day lmao
crzyshiba 6 points 2y ago
Hahah omg this has me dying lol I’m on my lunch must protect this green bean haha
Wonderful_Nightmare 6 points 2y ago
Yeah, as a relatively new ssv, I've learned that when giving directions to my newer beans I have to be clear. No but like ULTRA clear on what I ask otherwise we end up with little mishaps like that here and there lol
[deleted] 6 points 2y ago
I’m a green bean and won’t be making this mistake now that I’ve read this post.😂
MajorIsland3 4 points 2y ago
Make one for tomorrow? Try four.. 😭
MajorIsland3 8 points 2y ago
Why can’t we have a faster way to get the water?
craftyAnne6 3 points 2y ago
What in the Amelia Bedelia...?
missthemac 3 points 2y ago
We just say “oh can you make cold brew?” Or “can you DO the cold brew?”
kat833 3 points 2y ago
My store says can you pour the cold brew
they-were-roomates 3 points 2y ago
At my store we say “drop” the cold brew, I couldn’t tell you why, the term was already established when I was hired.
LZARDKING 3 points 2y ago
Oh no lmaoooo
BMWxX 2 points 2y ago
I choose the term “harvest” when talking about pulling the cold brew, gets a chuckle and a confirmation about 90% of the time.
RajangRath 2 points 2y ago
I can def see where they got confused. I was confused as to why you were asking this poor green bean to dump out your cold brew instead of cubing it! Probably best to steer clear of jargon when training new guys
steam_rolls 2 points 2y ago
Me training a Green Bean last week having to explain common sense things. Don’t get me wrong, I love training green beans but when I have to hold their hand each day of their training it gets tiring.
sleepyteaa 2 points 2y ago
Oh my god I would’ve cried
romanianhopscotch 2 points 2y ago
Have had this exact thing happen before. Why. Why.
Lunatics_Apprentice 2 points 2y ago
Gotta admit, as green bean I once ground fes instead of pike. Found out a month later when my co-worker asked me what I was doing with that fes...
al-ska 8 points 2y ago
Fes?
Lunatics_Apprentice 1 points 2y ago
I mean the espresso roast. Over here it’s called fes. The stuff that goes into the mastrena.

Edit: Okay chill with the downvotes. We’re non-US and just call it this way in my country, is that worth downvoting for? It’s mean and I expect more of our community..
eat-reddit-tv 1 points 2y ago
