Display Case @Target vs Stand Alone Starbs (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Independent_Stress47
Okay so a couple months ago I worked at a stand alone regular Starbucks. The display case was done once a week usually on Sunday mornings (sandwiches and pastries). Now I work at a Starbucks inside a Target and the display case is throw away every night and redone EVERY single morning!! That is such a waste of food. How is it supposed to be? Is there anyone I can talk to about not throwing away display food every single evening or is that just how things are supposed to be ?

Our store does it every single day. We’re a corporate location. I absolutely despise the food waste. What makes me even more frustrated is when our DM comes in and tells me it looks ‘sad’ because there is only one of each pastry in it instead of two....

Yep! And I’m like what’s sad is the amount of coffee we waste and food we waste and just waste! Ahhh drives me insane

I agree. It’s one of the reasons I left. For a company that’s watching it’s budget so closely, rather than making a one time purchase that’ll last years to come, they’d rather waste about $65 worth of perfectly edible food every single day.

I'd imagine its company standard. I've only ever worked at a stand alone store, but weve always done it every day. I assumed that was standard. It is a huge waste of food though, I feel like it could be done better

Thats how my store does it too

I work at a Target Starbucks and our display case attracts SO many fruit flies, it gets so disgusting. A customer even commented on it yesterday. We have to clean it out every night to minimize it, but I agree. I HATE food waste, and we aren’t allowed to take home expired food so I just save the unopened expired stuff for the pastry case and donate the sandwiches (edit: donate the unopened refrigerated sandwiches, in case that wasn't obvious lol).

I read somewhere about little cardboard cutouts for the pastry case, and I think that’s such a great idea.

we do ours every day, but now that fly season has passed we’re allowed to sell pastries from the case. we do still waste all those sandwiches and egg bites, but it reduces waste a little I guess. I wish we had those little cards with pictures instead!

Not sure if there is a standard tbh. My corporate store does it every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. However I used to work at another store that did it every Tuesday and Thursday. Target may also have a different standard. I think Target has a Starbucks district manager that sees over the target stores so maybe you can ask them since they are the liaison?
